Charlie chasing first-team honours

Charlie H Taylor is one of three seamers who have been handed their maiden professional contracts throughout 2025, alongside Matthew Firbank and Jay Singh.

Rookie pro Taylor, 19, is from Huddersfield and plays his cricket at Honley, the club which helped produce former White Rose batter Will Fraine.

Unlike Firbank and Singh, who are out-and-out quicks, Taylor is an all-rounder.

He is also one of two Charlie Taylors in the Yorkshire system, alongside Charlie R Taylor, who has been on the Emerging Players Programme.

“Charlie is a very good all-rounder,” said second-team coach Tom Smith.

“The likes of Jay and Matty Firbank are both 6’5, whereas Charlie isn’t quite as tall. He’s still comfortably six foot, but not as tall as those two. He’s more line and length, good skill. He’s got good white-ball skills and is very talented with the bat.”

Taylor, right-handed with the bat and right-arm with the ball, has been playing second-team cricket at Headingley for the last two summers. His first recorded county appearance came as an Under 14.

He took a superb second-innings 6-38 in an Under 18s three-day Championship win over Nottinghamshire at Weetwood in August 2024.

The Academy graduate played in back-to-back Under 18s County Cup finals in 2024 and 2025.

In the first, which Yorkshire won – beating Middlesex at Kibworth, he claimed three wickets in a successful defence of a 50-over 248-target.

In the second, which Yorkshire lost at Headingley against Glamorgan, he captained his county.
