Hannah, The Yorkshire Vet…
Yorkshire supporters got an early look at their new fast-bowling signing in late 2025, with Hannah Rainey joining the county on loan ahead of a permanent move in the winter.
Scotland seamer Rainey, 28-years-old, adds further international experience to the White Rose squad ahead of their elevation to Tier 1 in 2026.
Rainey made the move from Lancashire and linked up with international team-mate Rachel Slater and played her part in Yorkshire winning the Metro Bank One-Day Cup 2 title last September. She played five matches in that competition, with a best of 2-36 from nine overs coming at just the right time – in the semi-final win over Middlesex at Radlett.
The right-armer has signed a two-year contract with the county ahead of 2026
Rainey has an ODI five-wicket haul under her belt and taken 35 wickets in all for her country.
She was named in their squad for the October 2024 T20 World Cup in the UAE without actually playing. She did play in the ODI World Cup qualifying tournament in the same region at the start of last summer.
While not playing for Lancashire last summer, she enjoyed a productive early-season loan spell with the Bears in May, taking five wickets in four matches.
A tall seamer with good skills, Rainey also played for Cumbria in the old county structure. Born in Cumbria, she was educated at the University of Edinburgh. She has also had experience the Hundred as part of the Oval Invincibles squad in 2023.
In summer 2026, she will hope to feature for Scotland at the T20 World Cup in England – potentially even at Headingley.
Away from the game, Rainey is also a qualified vet.
A few years ago, she revealed that she missed a call from Oval Invincibles head coach Jon Batty to ask her to play in the Hundred because she was amputating a cow’s tail!
Rich Pyrah will hope Rainey deals with a different kind of tail during her stay at Headingley.
