Somerset closed day one of the pre-season friendly against Yorkshire at Desert Springs in Spain on 309-9 today.

The White Rose county’s men are playing the first of two pre-season friendlies ahead of the summer-opener, the Rothesay County Championship clash with Glamorgan at Cardiff on April 3.

The other is against Essex at Chelmsford at the end of this month.

Off-spinning all-rounder Dom Bess claimed the pick of the Yorkshire figures at the Almerian sports resort. He returned 2-18 from his seven overs.

Ben Coad, George Hill and Jay Singh had all claimed a wicket apiece during the morning, with Somerset opener Archie Vaughan completing an afternoon half-century.

The White Rose will bat on day two of the fixture tomorrow before returning home to Headingley later this week.
