The Yorkshire County Cricket Club carried out a heart-warming Christmas visit to children spending the festive period at Leeds Children’s Hospital.
Aimed to bring some seasonal cheer to young patients and their families during what can be a challenging time, Yorkshire stars Ben Coad, James Wharton and George Hill handed out gifts and festive treats to children across multiple wards, took time to chat with patients and families, as well as offering autographs and well-wishes.
The gifts which had been chosen with care to suit a wide range of ages included toys, colouring books and seasonal treats.
Yorkshire CCC Commercial Director, Dan Matson said, “Christmas can be a really difficult time for children and families spending it in hospital, so being able to bring some joy and distraction means a lot to everyone at the club.
“Even small moments — a chat, a smile, a gift — can really lift spirits. It’s a privilege for our players and staff to spend time with the children and their families, and to show that their community is thinking of them this Christmas.”
Laura Whelan, Head of Nursing at Leeds Children’s Hospital, said, “Thank you so much to the Yorkshire players and support staff who have given up their time to visit our patients today.
“No family wants to find themselves in hospital at Christmas but visits and generous donations from our local sports heroes provide a big boost for patients, families and staff. It’s been a pleasure to see all the smiles today.”
Yorkshire CCC would like to thank all the players and hospital staff who made today’s visit possible.
