Yorkshire will look to strengthen their batting stocks as well as adding an extra spin bowling option to their squad this coming winter.
The White Rose hierarchy are assessing their recruitment options as the 2019 summer comes to a close.
Yorkshire sit fifth in the Specsavers County Championship table with one round to go. They could still finish third after fourth-placed finishes in 2017 and 2018.
But coach Andrew Gale, director of cricket Martyn Moxon and captain Steve Patterson are searching for significant gains.
Moxon explained: “We’re looking to try and bring in two domestic batsmen, and we’re looking at how we develop our spin department.
“We have potential in that area, but how it affects the balance of the team in four-day cricket is a challenge, with who bats at number eight for example.
“That’s an area we have got to try and solve.”
Yorkshire have not hidden the fact they are keen to bring South African Test spinner Keshav Maharaj back to the club after taking 38 wickets in five Championship matches as a short-term overseas player.
Moxon added: “Kesh’s availability for next season is limited.
“He is not available at the start of the season because he’s getting married in May.
“It’s too early to know about later on. We’ll see what involvement he has with South Africa going forward, whether he’s involved in their white ball cricket or not.
“He wasn’t initially, but there’s been a change in regime. That will have an impact, obviously.
“Our core values are to still try and develop our own players as much as possible. That goes for the spin department. We have spinners with potential.
“The challenge of county cricket is to give our own players the opportunity to develop, but at the same time still winning. That’s the tricky balance we have to try and achieve.”
Yorkshire, meanwhile, will consider team changes next week against Warwickshire in order to give opportunity to younger players.
Matthew Fisher is set to play again, but he is unlikely to feature in the Yorkshire Premier League final at Emerald Headingley on Saturday between his Sheriff Hutton Bridge side and Woodlands.
