Yorkshire Cricket Coaching (YCCL) is celebrating its first anniversary and is reflecting on just over 12 months of growth, renewal, and real impact across the county.

Since aligning with Yorkshire CCC, the coaching arm has been rebuilt as a refreshed, aligned organisation designed to give young players a clear, inspiring pathway to the game utilising the expert know-how and world-class facilities at Headingley and across the county.

Over the past 12 months, Yorkshire Cricket Coaching has worked with more than 1,500 young cricketers, delivering:

  • 28 specialist and girls’ masterclasses
  • 20 ten-week coaching programmes
  • 18 club coaching partnerships
  • 16 summer camps
  • 2 regional performance camps

Behind the scenes, Yorkshire Cricket Coaching has welcomed new staff with experience across club, county and pathway cricket, all working to shared YCCC coaching principles.

Part of the YCCL’s mission is also coach development, to develop a clear pathway for coaches to progress into the county age group and professional game. The organisation has seen three of its coaches progress on this pathway, highlighting an unprecedented level of collaboration between YCCL and the county set-up.

That alignment means children and parents can trust that what’s delivered in a YCCL session reflects the same values, standards and terminology used throughout the Yorkshire system using cross-collaboration between YCCL and YCCC coaches – a pathway and talent identification network that has developed the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Lauren Winfield-Hill, Joe Root, Erin Thomas and Harry Brook.

On this milestone, Matt Green, Director of Yorkshire Cricket Coaching, said: “It’s been an incredible 12 months for Yorkshire Cricket Coaching and Yorkshire County Cricket Club in launching and developing this unique offering for cricket coaching in the county.

“It’s been fantastic to see the hard work of the team, and our impact in bringing together the county’s next generation of top cricketers, community clubs, and outstanding developing coaches together in this program.

“By integrating YCCL into the heart of the club, we are ensuring that our coach development, pathways, and county age groups are all benefiting from shared knowledge and expertise. The results we’ve seen in the last 12 months show the positives to this approach.

“We believe we are succeeding in our aim to raise the standard of coaching across the region and provide young cricketers in Yorkshire with an outstanding chance to be the best they can be. We look forward to continuing that into the next year and beyond.”

Gavin Hamilton, Director of Cricket at Yorkshire County Cricket Club, said: “We are delighted to see the progress YCCL has made over the last 12 months. The addition of new staff and the introduction of innovative ideas, particularly around the clinics on offer, has been fantastic to witness.

“The full alignment with the YCCC pathway is an invaluable step forward, giving young cricketers of all age groups a clear understanding of how to practise with purpose and what it takes to reach the next level.”

Alongside this, Yorkshire Cricket College continues to offer a full-time education and cricket pathway for 96 learners, with 31 game days, two overseas tours – to South Africa and Jersey – and three players represented in the YCCC Women’s 1st XI squad, plus a memorable girls’ national semi-final appearance in 2025.

Looking ahead, attention now turns to Yorkshire Cricket Coaching’s winter programme, with a packed calendar of ten-week courses, specialist masterclasses and performance-focused camps designed for all abilities – from first steps in cricket through to players targeting county age-group opportunities.

Plans for Summer 2026 are already underway, with regional development camps further aligned to Yorkshire performance pathways. To register your interest in YCCL’s Summer 2026 program, click here

Yorkshire Cricket Coaching will also offer coaching workshops to give exclusive access to Yorkshire’s finest coaches and is also looking to establish regional coaching hubs across the county to ensure that the next generation of cricketers have the opportunity to develop, wherever in the county they are.

The organisation is also exploring ways to bring the coaching and matchday experience even closer together in 2025, linking YCCC games with pre-match coaching sessions and integrated ticket packages. The aim is simple: make it easier than ever for young cricketers to learn, play and then watch their heroes in action at Headingley and beyond.

One year on, YCCL is firmly established as a confident, YCCC-led coaching group helping more young players fall in love with Yorkshire cricket and arming the next generation of cricketers with the best knowledge to compete at the top level by giving them a unique and unrivalled closeness to Headingley and the world-famous Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
