GAME 1
Yorkshire won the toss and asked the University to bat first a decision the University made the most of as 66 were added for the first wicket from only 46 balls – Jawad Akhtar taking the wicket of Hussain caught at point for 29. Dunnett made a run a ball 9, caught behind by Joe Thompson off Dan Moriarty and Jafer Chohan struck twice in his final over having Pearson caught at long off by Noah Kelly and bowling Hurst.
However throughout the innings, opener Lloyd was unbeaten reaching a half century from 47 balls and finishing 82 not out from 62 balls with 5 fours and 4 maximums. University ended on 173-4.
In reply early wickets were lost, Kelly caught at long on for 3 and Tom Fraine bowled for 15. Joe Thompson and Akhtar added 48 in 46 balls before the former was given out caught at long on with some uncertainty as to the catch, however the correct procedure was followed and he was given out having made 29 from 27.
Wickets fell at regular intervals with only Akhtar making a sizeable contribution – 34 from 40 and Yorkshire were limited to 144-8.
GAME 2
Yorkshire batted first but the innings followed a similar pattern to that of the first game i.e early wickets were lost and then fell at regular intervals. Akhtar, Will Luxton, Thompson and Joe Pocklington all fell within the powerplay 36-4.
Thompson made 23 and Jafer Chohan provided some power with 32 from 15 with 3 fours and 2 sixes but it was Tom Fraine who made the major contribution with 54 not out from only 40 balls (7×4) and the innings closed on 151-9.
Moriarty bowled Hussain in the first over and Pocklington had Dunnett lbw in his first over: 38-2. However Houghton made 41 from 28 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes but it was left to their skipper, Pearson to hit the winning run from the penultimate ball as they recorded a 5 wicket victory – Pearson 65 not out from 46 balls with 7 fours and a six.
