Fielding a team including 7 current Academy players against a much more experienced line up was never going to be easy but a very impressive performance resulted in a 15 run defeat.

Samit Patel won the toss and elected to bat first. Harry Came had reached 20 from 14 balls when his opening partner, Wagstaff was caught by Will Luxton off Alex Wade for 1. Bin-Naeem made a run a ball 13 when Luxton took a catch off Jawad Akhtars bowling; Derbyshire 54-2 in the last over of the power play.

Patel made 18 from 14 before Akhtar had him stumped by Harry Duke (88-3). Shortly after Came reached his half century from 31 balls with 6 fours and a six – he went on to make 64 from 43 with 2 further fours before he was caught at deep square by Wade to give Josh Hoyle a wicket. Debutant Hamdi Saleem bowled Carney and heading into the final over Derbyshire were 192-6.

Wade bowled it conceding 7 runs but taking 3 wickets to finish with 4-25.

Yorkshire required 200 and lost Will Luxton, caught behind in the 2nd over. Noah Kelly and Yash Vagadia added 77 in 42 balls before the latter was bowled for 44 from 24 balls with 8 fours and a six. Kelly reached 50 from 29 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes but he was caught at backward point for 57 from 35.

Harry Duke made 30 from 26 and despite creditable efforts by the lower order we couldn’t quite reach the target.

Next game is at Barnsley against Lancashire on Tuesday 2nd July. There will be 2 games; the first starts at 11 am and is another Group game and a Friendly will follow in the afternoon.
