First of all, a warm welcome to a new season and apologies for this being later than normal due to yours truly returning late from a pre-booked family holiday.
Winning the toss Yorkshire chose to bat and captain, Noah Kelly and Yash Vagadia added 59 in less than 10 overs before the latter was dismissed for 34. Kelly made 33 before falling lbw and Will Bennison made 12, Harry Duke 44 and Jawad Akhtar 35.
A partnership of 152 between Owen Smith and Jafer Chohan took us to 364-6 when the declaration came: Smith being run out for 95, however Chohan made 100* from only 86 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes.
Day 1 closed with the University on 52 without loss. The following day saw the opening stand extend to 99 before Tangirola was run out for 30 and shortly before lunch 115-1 became 117-4 with wickets for Smith and 2 for Chohan – Chohan struck, again, shortly after lunch and further wickets saw them reduced to 145-8. Hawkins and Currie added 50 for the 9th wicket before Brad Sylvester had Currie lbw for 37 and Chan got his “5 for” as they were dismissed for 215.
Kelly and Vagadia, again, got us off to a good start adding 134 before Vagadia was caught at long on for 77 from 73 balls with 12 fours and close of play was reached without further loss at 205 with Kelly reaching a “run a ball” 100 (12×4;4×6)-Duke was 26 no from 13.
The final day started with Duke “retiring out” and being replaced by Will Bennison however he and Kelly were both dismissed in the first over of the day for 2 and 102 respectively. Akhtar ended 27 no as we declared at 246-5, a lead of 395.
The period up to lunch ended with the University on 71-2, wickets for Smith and Sylvester. After lunch they crashed from 100-2 to 107-6 and had recovered, slightly, at tea on 158-7 however due to rain and showers no further play was possible and the game was called off as a draw shortly before 5pm.
Our next game starts on Tuesday 14th April against Derbyshire at North Marine Rd, Scarborough.
