“It’s definitely another game which has got away,” said captain Lauren Winfield-Hill after Yorkshire’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup defeat against Hampshire at York today.
The White Rose’s fourth defeat in seven games could, on another day, have been their third win.
They had Hampshire 127-5 in the 29th over of their 38 before seeing them get away to 207-5. The target was then adjusted to 213.
In reply, Yorkshire were 63-0 in the 13th over of their chase, only to slip to 63-2 and finish on 196-8, losing by 16 runs on DLS. Winfield-Hill was one of the early wickets to fall, which pegged the chase back.
“We’ve got some obvious areas that we keep letting slip,” said the skipper.
“I mean, we’ve come pretty close at the end there with Gracie (Hall) and Langers (Beth Langston). It just showed us what’s possible if you take it deep.
“It’s just a bit of a theme with sort of getting behind the game a little bit with the ball and in the field.
“And we’re getting ourselves into good positions with the bat but not quite grabbing the bull by the horns and making those 60-70 partnerships into 150s and putting a big imprint on the game.
“We’re sort of doing some good bits in patches, but the bad patches sort of derail us quite quickly.
“It’s just that consistency that we’ve not quite managed to find across the full game with bat and ball, really.
“We’ve done really well in patches, but you can’t do well in patches if you want to beat a team like Hampshire. They’re a pretty well-drilled side.”
