Yorkshire men’s batting all-rounder Will Bennison has been called up to the England squad as an injury replacement for the forthcoming Under 19s World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Bennison, aged 19, signed his maiden professional contract at Headingley last summer and debuted for the first team in a Metro Bank One-Day Cup win over Kent at Canterbury in August.

He scored a superb 203 not out opening the batting in the first second-team game of 2025, a three-day friendly against Warwickshire in early April when the White Rose chased down 403 on the last day to win by seven wickets.

Bennison has featured regularly for the Under 19s at home and abroad since September, but he missed out on initial selection for the World Cup.

A fractured left thumb suffered in training by Worcestershire batter Isaac Mohammed, however, has opened the door for the Sheriff Hutton Bridge teenager.

He will link up with England in Harare, where they play their opening game of the 50-over tournament against Group B rivals Pakistan on next Friday.

The final will take place on February 6.

Bennison has nine U19 ODI appearances under his belt with a top-score of 42 not out.

England are in the same group as co-hosts Zimbabwe and fellow home nation Scotland. Somerset wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew will captain.

Australia are the defending champions.
