SCORECARD

A superb 100 off 84 from wicketkeeper-opener Curtis Sugden helped a Yorkshire D40 side beat their Sussex counterparts in a 40-over friendly at Headingley yesterday.

Sugden retired not out, and his 13 fours and two sixes were supplemented by a middle-order 81 from Daniyal Zaman and 56 not out from Jack Thornton, who both impressed.

In reply, Sussex were bowled out for 229, with Jasper Spooner the pick of the bowlers with an excellent 4-38 from seven overs, added to by two wickets for captain Cameron Cooper and one apiece for Lewis Daniels and Dan Copping.

Sugden and Zaman recovered the White Rose from 30-3 in the sixth over by sharing a stand of 175 to pile the pressure on the South Coast county.

This was the ideal way for a number of Yorkshire’s Pursuit players to warm up for Sunday’s national semi-final against Somerset at Kidderminster.
