Jack Shutt, Yorkshire’s debutant off-spinner, has reflected on a surreal evening having encouraged during the Roses Vitality Blast defeat to Lancashire at Emerald Headingley.
The 22-year-old off-spinner from Barnsley returned figures of 2-31 from four overs bowled straight through.
His first three overs cost him only 14 runs and yielded the wickets of Steven Croft and Liam Livingstone – caught at long-on and long-off respectively as the visitors posted 170-6, a total the White Rose failed to overhaul.
The wicket of Croft came with only his third ball in the eighth over, while he later bowled at Australia star Glenn Maxwell, one of the most destructive hitters in the world game.
Yorkshire have now lost two from four North Group games, winning one added to a No Result.
They travel to Northampton on Sunday when Shutt will aim to build on his impressive display and boost the Vikings chances of reaching the top four places in the North Group for a quarter-final finish.
“There’s a hell of long way to go in this competition and you get on a bit of a run and with a bit of momentum behind you, anything can happen,” said Shutt.
“We’re a long way from seeing how it’s going to pan out.”
Lancashire only scored 32 off the last five overs of their innings.
Unfortunately, however, that momentum couldn’t be built upon as Yorkshire finished on 161-9.
Shutt added: “At the halfway point, although we left a few out there, we were pretty happy. But we were disappointed with the second half.
“I’m happy with how it went tonight personally, especially the first three overs.
“If you’d have told me this morning that I was going to bowl four overs straight through at Glenn Maxwell, then I wouldn’t have believed you.
“He’s an unbelievable player who I’ve watched on TV a lot growing up. So that was really surreal.”
