England are off the mark in Australia, and it was music to the ears of Joe Root!

Jason Roy’s record-breaking 180 – England’s highest ever individual score in one-day international cricket – underpinned a routine chase of 305 during the first Gillette ODI at the MCG yesterday, while a trio of Yorkshire stars contributed significantly to this five-wicket victory with seven balls to spare.

Liam Plunkett claimed three wickets and Adil Rashid two, including the prize scalp of Aussie captain Steve Smith.

Root then shared a game breaking third-wicket stand of 221 with Roy – also England’s biggest ever in 50-over cricket – and finished unbeaten on 91.
