There was a change in the recent weather at Weetwood on Saturday, when heavy rain during the morning delayed the start for an hour. It was cooler and there was a strong breeze.

The Academy won the toss and elected to bat against Scarborough.

The home side were struggling at 24 for 2 in the eighth over. A recovery took place between Matthew Revis and Tom Loten who put together a stand of 57 for the third wicket from 71 balls before Revis was dismissed for 36 with the total on 81 for 3 in the 20th over. The next wicket fell quickly. Captain Ben Birkhead joined Loten and the pair took the score to 136 before Loten fell for 41. Birkhead was the batsman to be dismissed at 158 to the last ball of the 34th over, having contributed 33. Eddie Barnes and Matthew Taylor came together and just after the start of the partnership came an interruption for rain which 8 overs were lost with each side having a maximum of 46 overs.

Following the interruption the run rate was increased with boundary hitting. The pair put on an excellent stand of 75 from only 68 balls before Taylor went in the final over for 36. Barnes was 51 not out from 47 balls with 7 fours and a six and the final total after 46 overs was 242 for 7.

Scarborough’s wicket takers were Jonathan Anderson 2 for 31, Theo Smit 1 for 61, Jack Holt 2 for 41, Ben Elvidge 1 for 42 and Linden Gray 1 for 28.

Following the interruption for rain, the DLS revised target was 244 from 46 overs. The visitors got off to a dreadful start as they lost the first three wickets with the total on 11. The fourth wicket fell at 28 in the eighth over. They couldn’t recover from the poor start as the rest of batsmen provided little resistance and the visitors collapsed from 46 for 4 to 64 all out which was the lowest score in the Yorkshire League North this season.

The wickets were shared between Eddie Barnes 3 for 29, Matthew Taylor 2 for 16, Harry Sullivan 4 for 4 from 6 overs with his first 4 being maidens and Joshua Sullivan 1 for 7.

It was another good all round performance from the Academy who are still fifth in the table but gained ground on Sheriff Hutton Bridge who are only two points ahead in fourth place.

There are two matches next weekend away at Clifton Alliance on Saturday, then at home in the Knock Out Cup Semi Final next Sunday against Barnsley Woolley Miners who are currently third in the Yorkshire League South.

Points: Yorkshire Academy 10 Scarborough 0.
