Scorecard

On a cool, overcast morning our visitors won the toss and elected to bat. Yorkshires opening bowlers, Ben Coad and Duanne Olivier, both obtained bounce and movement and it was no surprise that scoring was difficult. Ben struck first bowling Yates for 6 from 30 deliveries. Pieter Malan was lbw to Olivier for 1 and Brookes bowled by Steve Patterson without scoring to leave Warwickshire 24-3 in the 13th over.

No more wickets were taken prior to lunch as they reached 58 from 29 overs. Shortly after Coad and Patterson each took their second wicket, both caught by keeper Birkhead to reduce them to 63-5 – the latest wicket was that of Dom Sibley who made 31 from 98 balls faced.

Benjamin and Balaji added 53 in 112 balls before they were both dismissed in successive overs for 22 and 25 respectively: a wicket each for Tom Loten and Matthew Revis. Jack Shutt then took 2 in 2 to leave them 123-9 and Revis wrapped up the innings having Norwell caught at mid off and they were 135 all out.

The same bounce and movement was apparent at the start of our reply and indeed James Wharton was trapped lbw by the first ball of the innings and Jonny Tattersall “chopped on” to leave us 4-2. We had reached 14-2 when a sudden downpour ended the day early shortly after 5pm.
