Our hosts won the toss and asked us to bat first. Will Fraine and James Wharton added 48 for the first wicket before Fraine was caught behind. As our innings progressed it became increasingly obvious that it was not a pitch to score freely on – a measure of this was that as we totalled 235-8 only 17 fours and 1 six were hit.
Most were able to get a start but were unable to be more expansive and only 2 of our batters had a strike rate of above 80. Will Luxton top scored with 40 from 51 balls and late impetus was given by the Matthews – Revis 36, Waite 22 and Fisher 11no.
Lancashire’s reply saw Shah and Cornall add 80 in 102 balls before Josh Poysden struck in his first over to take the first of his five victims. The innings followed a similar pattern to ours in so far as starts were made but 40 again was the top individual score made by Cornall before he was the victim of superb anticipation at slip by Will Fraine when attempting a “ramp” shot – the first of four catches for Will.
Lancashire reached 188-5, needing 48 in a little over 10 overs but wickets fell quickly and they were all out for 216 from 47 overs. Josh Poysden taking two in the last over to finish with 5-39 and fellow “spinners” Josh Sullivan 2-31 and Jack Shutt 2-38.
Yorkshire win by 19 runs.
