Report

A strange day weather wise helped contribute to the game ending in a draw. The day started under grey skies before blue sky and sunshine took over. However just when there was a hint of victory on the horizon the infamous Scarborough sea fret decided to call.

Yorkshire were 127 ahead overnight and lost James Wharton for 16 and Tom Loten before Jonny Tattersall joined Will Fraine – they added 42 before Fraine was caught at mid off for 45 from 83 balls (4×4;1×6). Tattersall then went for 34 and Matthew Waite for 5 and at lunch we had slipped from 97-2 to 129-5, a lead of 234.

George Hill, 29 from 35, was caught in the post lunch over and there followed some “friendly” bowling and Yorkshire declared at 179-6 leaving Lancashire requiring 285 to win in 58 overs.

Shah and Cornall added 45 for the first wicket before Shah became the first of Waites three wickets as Lancashire were reduced to 70-3 – the second of these wickets courtesy of a stunning catch at third slip by George Hill. Tea arrived at 81-3: 204 required from 35 overs.

Lavelle was caught behind for 13 and it appeared that our visitors “mindset” had changed and the following nine overs produced 26 runs. Matthew Revis took a wicket with his third ball, Lancashire 123-5 with 19.3 overs remaining when in the blink of an eye the weather decided to intervene at 4.55pm.

With no sign of improvement play was called off at 5.14.
