The opening day of Yorkshire’s LV= Insurance County Championship clash with Gloucestershire at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol was abandoned without a ball bowled due to a wet outfield today.

Heavy and consistent rainfall in the South West over the last fortnight, including last night, forced umpires Paul Pollard and Billy Taylor to call off the opening day at 9.45am.

Neither side had started their warm-ups, with ground-staff working on the outfield and cut strip.

At one end of the pitch, a heat lamp was in operation throughout the morning and long after play had been called off in a bid to improve conditions.

Fast bowler Matthew Fisher must wait at least another day to make his comeback from injury, while Pakistan overseas batter Saud Shakeel is awaiting his first action in a Yorkshire shirt.

The weather forecast in the Bristol area over the next few days is mixed.

While Yorkshire were beaten by Leicestershire at Headingley in the opening round last week, Gloucestershire drew with Glamorgan in Cardiff.
