Yorkshire head coach Rich Pyrah reflected on today’s 50-over defeat against Glamorgan at Weetwood and said: “We were 50-60 runs short, minimum, on that pitch.”

Glamorgan won by four wickets chasing 173 inside 46 overs.

They bowled the White Rose out for 172, with Ria Fackrell top-scoring with 36 and Rebecca Duckworth adding 29. They were the only two home batters to reach 20 on a pitch which turned.

Thirteen of the 16 wickets in the match fell to spin.

All-rounder Fackrell had an excellent day, claiming three wickets with her off-spinners.

Ultimately, though, Yorkshire suffered their third defeat in six in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. They remain in semi-final contention with three games to play in the group.

Pyrah said:“I’ve said all along that this year is going to throw different challenges at us.

“We’re in a period now where we’re missing seven first-team players from the start of the season for whatever reason – injury and unavailability through the Hundred.

“We showed good character with the ball towards the end, but we were 50-60 runs short, minimum, on that pitch.

“It was a great cricketing pitch. It spun and it bounced. But, if you bowled any bad balls, you got scored off. It’s also such a quick-scoring ground here. Scoring 250 here would be like scoring 210 anywhere else.”

Pyrah praised Fackrell, today’s standout performer. She has enjoyed an excellent second half of the season, in particular.

He added: “Ria got off to a slow start in the season, big move for her moving up to Leeds. But we’ve found a clear role for her now. She bowls in the middle, bats around seven. Whenever she goes into bat, she’s busy, she ups the tempo with her running and striking of the ball.

“She’s done really well, so I’m pleased for her.

“The most pleasing thing for me is that when we’re in tough moments, she’s standing up.”
