Leicestershire CCC pitch charge
Interesting news from the Cricket Regulator relating to Leicestershire this morning, which might have an impact on Yorkshire and, indeed, Essex. Points deduction is a possible outcome. Here’s the Cricket Regulator statement released at 8am.
“Following an investigation by the Cricket Regulator, Leicestershire County Cricket Club have been charged with breaching the ECB Pitch Regulations.
“The investigation followed the Match Officials reporting the pitch at Uptonsteel Grace Road following the Rothesay County Championship match against Glamorgan, played between 20th to 23rd August 2026.
“The matter has now be referred to the independent Cricket Discipline Panel for adjudication. As proceedings are ongoing, no further comment will be made by the Cricket Regulator.”

From Headingley, where it’s dry and overcast but seemingly a touch wet underfoot.
There’s been a decent amount of overnight rain, but the ground-staff are removing the covers and mopping up at present.
We shall await news from the umpires regarding the prospects of a start on time at 10.30am.
These two sides are placed seventh and eighth in Division One, Essex holding sway by two points. Both are looking over their shoulders at the relegation zone, with Leicestershire seven points behind Yorkshire.
A win would do wonders for the cause of either side. Fingers crossed, that can be Yorkshire come Friday evening.
This is Yorkshire’s first match at Headingley of any kind since the Vitality Blast quarter-final defeat to Somerset in mid-July. Since then, we have been on the road with the One-Day Cup and the Championship at places such as Scarborough and York.
While Yorkshire were beaten away by Surrey last week, Essex lost at home by Sussex.
