Yorkshire’s D40 Pursuit side are flying this summer.
The county’s Disability second-team have won four matches from four in the North and Midlands group, including a double weekend success against Lancashire and Cheshire at home and away.
A report for the away win over Cheshire on Sunday is below, but that was followed by a seven-wicket success over Roses rivals Lancashire at Higham yesterday to leave them top of the standings.
Dairen Hirst-Spalding claimed 4-27 from six overs of spin as Lancashire were bowled out for 161 inside 37 of their 40 overs.
Lewis Daniels, Ollie Wills and Jasper Spooner also claimed two wickets apiece, with England mixed disability batter Tom Meskell top-scoring with 41 for the visitors.
In reply, openers Jack Thornton and in-form Daniyal Zaman went a long way to settling the game with a 90-run opening partnership.
Thornton went on to top-score with 55 off 45 balls and Zaman added 47 off 30. Both hit two sixes, with Zaman backing up a delightful maiden century against Cheshire on Sunday.
An unbeaten 27 from wicketkeeper-captain Archie Atkins-Sloan then saw Yorkshire over the line inside 20 overs of their chase.
The two counties meet again in the National Quest League this coming Sunday – a first-team fixture – also at Higham CC.
Daniyal Zaman and Curtis Sugden had both scored superb centuries to help the Pursuit side continue their impressive start to the new summer as they hammered Cheshire by 121 runs at New Brighton on Sunday.
Opener Zaman and captain Sugden both retired out with scores of 100 off 72 balls and 103 off 72 respectively as the White Rose posted a commanding 40-over total of 289 all out.
They recovered the score from 52-5 in the ninth over, sharing 94 for the sixth wicket to underpin the county’s third successive win in the North and Midlands Group, which they sit top of.
Opener Zaman’s ton was his first for the county, and he hit 13 fours and three sixes. Wicketkeeper-batter Sugden crashed eight fours and six sixes.
In reply, Cheshire were steady but non-threatening as they finished with 168-7, including two wickets apiece for Jacob Grimes and Jack Taylor on debut.
New-ball seamer William Baxter, however, returned the pick of the figures having taken the new ball. He returned 1-15 from eight overs.
