“It’s tricky behind the sticks, that’s for sure,” chuckled Fin Bean when asked about Kuldeep Yadav and how’s settled into life with Yorkshire.
India star Kuldeep had a productive debut against Glamorgan at Neath yesterday, contributing two wickets with his left-arm wrist spin and then a useful 12 with the bat as the White Rose scrambled over the line by two wickets chasing 187.
It was his first of five Metro Bank One-Day Cup appearances, added to three in the Rothesay County Championship at the back end of the season.
His next outing will be against Sussex Sharks at Hove tomorrow (11am) as Yorkshire bid to get on a roll in Group B.
“His control and just the subtle changes he has, he’s unbelievable,” said Bean, who took the wicketkeeping gloves at The Gnoll yesterday.
“He got a lot out of that pitch, which other spinners wouldn’t have, and it shows his class. He was impressive.”
Fast bowler Ben Cliff added: “He’s definitely a good character, great to have around. He’s got a bit about him. He’s good fun, and having that experience that he has around the dressing room is crucial.”

Yorkshire travel to Hove for the second year running in this competition. Last August, they won there in a game which saw Matt Milnes claim seven wickets, including a hat-trick. He has since left for Kent.
Sussex have started with back-to-back defeats, against Glamorgan at Neath on Wednesday and Durham at Banks Homes Riverside last night. The latter came by 72 runs chasing a target of 353.
Captained by off-spinner Jack Carson, they will also include former Yorkshire batter Jack Leaning. Paul Farbrace is in his final season as coach before taking on a part-time role as director of cricket at the club.
They have just announced that former Kent batter and coach Matt Walker will replace Farbrace as head coach from next season. Walker is currently on the coaching staff at Warwickshire.
Having beaten Glamorgan, Yorkshire are now bidding to get on a roll as they target a top-three finish in Group B for knockout qualification next month.
They sailed through the group stage with seven wins and a defeat last year, with Bean keen for victory at Sussex so that something similar can be achieved in 2026.
He added: “We got on a bit of a roll last year, and it’s using that momentum to build confidence. Glamorgan, it was a bit of a dogged win, and sometimes you need something like that to get going in a competition. So, fingers crossed we can take it forwards.”
