Yorkshire came out on the wrong end of a rain-affected Metro Bank One-Day Cup clash with last year’s finalists Hampshire today, falling short of chasing an adjusted 38-over target of 213 to lose by 16 runs on Duckworth Lewis Stern.
Following a delayed start until 10.45am, inserted Hampshire posted 205-7 before the target was adjusted on DLS to reflect further interruptions through the morning and into the early afternoon.
Jess Jonassen stood out for Yorkshire with 3-24 from eight overs of high-class left-arm spin on a pitch showing signs of extra bounce. However, Hampshire recovered from 93-4 in the 22nd over and 127-5 in the 30th thanks largely to a fine 50 from Francesca Sweet and 41 not out from Australian Amanda-Jade Wellington.
Yorkshire fell from 63-0 to 85-4 in their reply and finished on 196-8. Sterre Kalis top-scored with 46.
While this was Yorkshire’s fourth defeat in seven games, this was also Hampshire’s fifth win in seven. They sit second in the table.
The main rain delay came for approximately 90 minutes from just before 1.25pm.
At that stage, Hampshire were 127-5 in the 30th over before tall right-hander Sweet and Wellington scored the lion’s share of another 78 runs added. They shared 72 for the sixth wicket.
Both hit five fours; Sweet at the crease for 57 balls and Wellington for only 27.

Almost a year ago today, 21-year-old Sweet score a fifty for Leicestershire in a defeat to Yorkshire on this ground in the Tier 2 One-Day Cup.
This was her first innings for Hampshire, who she joined over the winter, in her third appearance.
Opening batter Ella McCaughan actually top-scored for Hampshire with 51 off 68 balls.
But her and opening partner Rhianna Southby, the latter for 31, fell immediately before the players left the field for rain.
Southby was first – caught at deep square-leg on the pull against the seam of Ines Blackwell for 31, breaking a 12.2-over first-wicket partnership. McCaughan later fell caught at midwicket off Maddie Ward’s spin, leaving the score at 127-5 in the 30th.
Jonassen was playing her first game back following a whistle-stop trip back home to Australia for her best friend’s wedding. She missed the defeat to Essex at Headingley earlier this month.
And she continued her excellent start to her two-year overseas deal with Yorkshire, her three wickets leaving Hampshire at 93-4 in the 22nd over.
She had Abi Norgrove caught and bowled after the batter shaped to pull a shortish ball, was undone by extra bounce and got a top edge.

She then had returning Hampshire captain Georgia Adams caught by a diving Ami Campbell at short mid-wicket for one before getting left-handed Naomi Dattani caught behind playing back.
Adams was playing only her second game of the season following a month out with a quad injury.
Yorkshire’s openers Lauren Winfield-Hill and Georgie Boyce then shared 63 inside 13 overs to get the reply off to a very handy start.
Winfield-Hill drilled Wellington’s leg-spin twice down the ground for boundaries in an over as the score moved into the sixties.
But, frustratingly, both fell in the space of three balls to Dattani’s left-arm swing and Wellington’s leg-spin (1-31 from eight overs).
Boyce was caught behind for 22 and Winfield-Hill stumped on 35.
And, from there, the White Rose struggled to regain any momentum.
The loss of Jonassen for seven – a player with two recent centuries to her name – was a hammer blow when she miscued the pacy Poppy Tulloch to mid-off.

And when Campbell pulled the off-spin of Adams to mid-wicket in the next over, Yorkshire were 85-4 in the 20th and with a mountain to climb.
Kalis tried her best to lead the revival. But, credit to Hampshire, they bowled nicely and were able to squeeze things even though further wickets didn’t come in a hurry.
Kalis and Blackwell shared 46 for the fifth wicket before the latter miscued the left-arm spin of Bex Tyson to Dattani running in from cover. At that stage, Yorkshire were 131-5 in the 30th over needing 10 runs an over or more to win.
When Kalis was bowled in the next by Dattani – 137-6 – that felt like the killer blow.
And so it proved.
Tyson struck again to remove Ward before Claudie Cooper was run out – 157-8 in the 34th over.
Beth Langston and Grace Hall then took the game down to needing 24 off the final over from Adams, and they finished with 26 and 21 not out respectively.
Yorkshire face Warwickshire at Scarborough on Saturday in the final 50-over game before the start of the Vitality Blast next week.
