On a scorching day Ben Coad won the toss and elected to bowl and it was he who struck first having Ghumman well caught at 2nd slip by Owen Smith with the first of his 4 catches. Christie and Will Rhodes added 51 in 60 balls before the former was bowled by George Hill for 30.
Symmington was caught at the wicket by Fin Bean for 3 and Mustard taken at point by Smith – wickets for Hill and Isaac Bepey: Durham were 104-4 in the 22nd over. However a partnership of 165 in only 120 balls put our visitors in the driving seat. George Drissell fell 2 short of his hundred when bowled by Jawad Akhtar ( his 98 came from 69 balls with 12 fours and 3 sixes) whilst Rhodes completed his century from 90 balls with 14 fours – he was bowled by Coad for 115.
Late wickets were taken but Durham closed on 327-9 – there were 3 wickets each for Hill 3-35 from his 10 overs and Bepey 3-69 from his allocation.
Smith and Yash Vagadia added 40 in 47 balls before Smith was caught at slip and Harry Duke was the victim of an unfortunate run out at the non strikers end: 67-2. Hill was caught at mid on for 14 and the next ball Vagadia adjudged lbw for 59 – this came from 53 balls with 7 fours – Yorkshire 96-4 in the 19th over.
Bean and Akhtar took the score to 162 before Bean was caught at deep mid-wicket for 39 from 32 balls and Akhtar was joined by Joe Thompson. The pair added 96 in 85 balls before Akhtar was bowled for 64, made from 83 balls with 4 fours. Thompson brought up his half century from 44 balls. Coad was caught at long on and Louie Wilson finished 10 not out from 5 balls. Despite Thompsons efforts, he finished unbeaten on 86 from 63 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes, we finished 11 short.
An excellent game in trying conditions for all of us.
Next action is a 50 over game at Rugby school on Monday against Warwickshire before returning to Weetwood on Friday 17th July to play SACA, again 50 overs per side.
