Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the signing of James Taylor, with the talented seamer joining the Club on a three-year deal from Surrey.
The former Derbyshire and England U19 quick will link up with the White Rose ahead of the 2027 season, after seven years at the Kia Oval.
Taylor has taken 41 wickets in 19 first-class appearances for Surrey and enjoyed a standout loan spell with Kent earlier this season, claiming a remarkable 10 wickets on his Championship debut for the county. The 25-year-old made four appearances for the England U19’s and has continued to impress since then with his pace, control and ability to extract movement with the new ball.
Taylor has developed within a strong bowling group and arrives at Headingley with significant experience despite his age.
He said, “At this stage of my career, I felt it was the right time to take on a new challenge. Yorkshire have shown a lot of belief in me, and I’m looking forward to repaying that faith by contributing as much as I can to the team.
“Headingley is one of the great grounds in county cricket and I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the Yorkshire supporters. Hopefully I can help the Club compete for trophies over the next few seasons and continue to develop my game.
“I’m excited to get started with the lads, work hard over the winter and be ready to hit the ground running ahead of the 2027 season. I can’t wait to pull on the White Rose shirt and begin this next chapter.”
Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket, added, “James is a bowler we’ve admired for some time and we’re delighted he’s chosen to continue the next stage of his career with Yorkshire.
“He’s developed in a hugely competitive environment at Surrey, and whenever he’s been given an opportunity, he’s shown he has the attributes to succeed at the highest level. He’s quick, skillful, competitive, and has the ability to take wickets in all conditions.
“His performances this season, particularly during his loan spell with Kent, demonstrated exactly the qualities we’re looking for. He’ll strengthen our pace attack, but we also believe there’s plenty more to come from him. We’re excited to see him continue his development in a Yorkshire shirt and believe he can become an important part of our squad over the coming years.”
