Live: Yorkshire v Surrey, Rothesay CC, Day Two

Yorkshire enjoyed the better of day one against Surrey at Scarborough yesterday. If they can back it up on day two, they have will have a great chance of beating the county champions for win number three this season. Follow our blog for live updates throughout the day.

No more play today.

There will be no more play today, unfortunately.

Yorkshire end it on 376-5.

Somerset beat Durham...

Durham are getting dragged back into the fight at the bottom of the table, beaten inside two days at Somerset.

Raining again

Unfortunately, the rain has returned to Scarborough. It’s not hard, but it certainly harms our chances of seeing any more play today.

No play imminent

The umpires have been out look, but there’s no signs of the covers being removed, unfortunately.

India 145-3, 51st over

Chris Woakes, Liam Dawson and Ben Stokes have claimed the wickets, all in the afternoon, at Emirates Old Trafford.

Tea now being taken

The umpires have called tea.

The rain has stopped, and the ground-staff are mopping up. Fingers crossed, we see some more play shortly.

Rain stopped play

Or maybe we’re not. Yorkshire 376-5 from 110.1 overs.

The players walk off.

Yorkshire 375-5, 110 overs

Matthew Revis 34 and Will Sutherland 6.

Yorkshire have taken three batting points to Surrey’s one bowling point.

We’re playing through some rain now.

Yorkshire 364-5, 105.2 overs

Jonny Bairstow caught Will Jacks bowled Sai Kishore, 72.

Miscued high to deep mid-on, ending an 88-run partnership with Matthew Revis, who has 29.

Will Sutherland in now.

Yorkshire 353-4, 103rd over

Jonny Bairstow has 63 and Matthew Revis 27.

Yorkshire have a third batting point in the bag. Can they get a fourth? Bairstow is certainly playing with intent.

Bairstow 50

Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow has just swept Sai Kishore’s left-arm spin for six and then lap-swept a boundary off him two balls later to reach his fifty and take Yorkshire to 334-4 in the 100th over.

Bairstow gets there off 68 balls, with 9x4s and 1x6s.

Excellent stuff from the skipper.

Yorkshire 301-4, 91st over

Jonny Bairstow crashes Dan Worrall through the covers for fours to move to 33.

Yorkshire 301-4 after 91 overs. Matthew Revis has 5.

Yorkshire 282-4, 86 overs

Jonny Bairstow has 19 and Matthew Revis yet to score.

The latter will face Dan Worrall to get us underway.

Play to begin at 1pm

Good news. We will have a minimum of 83 overs in the day.

Further inspection at 12.15pm

The umpires have called for an early lunch at 12pm and will inspect again 15 minutes later.

England have won the toss and will bowl first...

In the fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford.

England are 2-1 up in the series.

Further inspection at 11.15am

We will have a delayed start due to a wet outfield.

The umpires will take another look at 11.15am.

The ground staff are currently working on the bowlers’ run-ups at the Trafalgar Square End.

10.15am inspection

The umpires, Nigel Llong and Russell Warren, have been out in the middle to have a look and will do so again in just under 45 minutes.

Blotter at work

The players and coaches from both sides have been out in the middle to check on a few areas which look like they’re problematic. Scarborough’s head groundsman John Dodds is now on his blotter working away. No warm-ups have started yet.

Good morning...

From North Marine Road, where it’s dry and bright ahead of day two against Surrey, which Yorkshire will begin on 282-4.

Fin Bean, Will Luxton and James Wharton all posted fifties yesterday, 57, 71 and 78 respectively, to advance Yorkshire’s cause having won the toss.

Surrey improved as the day went on and kept the run-rate in check even if they didn’t take the weight of wickets they would have wanted.

Yorkshire were helped along by century partnerships for the first and third wickets between Bean and Adam Lyth and then Luxton and Wharton. New-ball seamer Dan Worrall struck three times for a Surrey side who are a point clear at the top of Division One after nine games.

As Will Luxton said: “Against top of the table, you’d take that day any day of the week. Batting first, to be only four down, it’s a good day for us.”
