Live: Yorkshire v Surrey, Rothesay CC, Day One

Yorkshire are back in Rothesay County Championship action for the first time since the start of July, when they beat Essex at York. Having travelled up the A64 to Scarborough, can they back it up against county champions Surrey this week? Follow our blog for live updates throughout day one.

No more play...

That’s it for day one here at North Marine Road, where Yorkshire have reached 282-4 from 86 overs.

Excellent day for the White Rose.

Rain has returned

We came off for bad light, but now it’s raining pretty heavily.

Bad light stops play

We have 10 overs remaining in the day, but that might be it. Yorkshire 282-4 from 86, with Bairstow 19 and Revis 0.

Yorkshire 276-4, 82.3 overs

James Wharton caught behind Josh Blake bowled Dan Worrall, 78.

Caught behind following a pushed drive.

Matthew Revis in now alongside Jonny Bairstow, who has 14.

New ball for Surrey

Dan Worrall is back into the attack, as is Matthew Fisher.

Yorkshire 268-3 after 81 overs, with James Wharton 78 and Jonny Bairstow 6.

Yorkshire 257-3, 76.4 overs

Will Luxton bowled Will Jacks, 71.

Bowled on the sweep, ending a fine partnership of 149 with James Wharton, who has a season’s best 73.

Career best score for Luxton.

Jonny Bairstow in now.

Luxton moves to a career best 64

Yorkshire 230-2 from 68 overs now.

Will Luxton has just flicked Jamie Overton for six over deep square.

Yorkshire 215-2, 65 overs

Early stages of the evening, with Surrey having started with the combination of Jamie Overton’s seam and Sai Kishore’s spin.

Tea. Yorkshire 211-2, 64 overs

James Wharton has 51, Will Luxton 52. They have shared an unbroken 103 for the third wicket.

Wharton 50

James Wharton reaches his fifty off 111 with 3x4s and 1x6s.

Yorkshire 211-2 after 63 overs – one remaining before tea. Superb day so far.

Luxton 50

Will Luxton has reached his fifty off 69 balls with 8x4s. Excellent.

Yorkshire 202-2 after 61 overs. James Wharton has 43.

Six for Wharton!

James Wharton has just hoisted the off-spin of Will Jacks down the ground and has 35 out of 184-2 in the 55th over. Will Luxton has 41.

Yorkshire 170-2, 51st over

Will Luxton 38 and James Wharton 24 have shared 62 for the third wicket.

Imam-Ul-Haq

A Yorkshire statement on Imam’s omission from this game.

“Overseas signing Imam-Ul-Haq hasn’t been selected for this fixture following a late issue with his visa. The club are working with Imam, his agent and the authorities to get this resolved.”

Yorkshire 131-2, 39 overs

Will Luxton 16 and James Wharton 8.

Yorkshire 108-2, 32.3 overs

Fin Bean caught Jordan Clark bowled Dan Worrall, 57.

Oh no. Bean gets in a bit of a tangle against a well directed short ball and can only bunt it to wide mid-on, where Clark takes a low catch.

Surrey have their tails up as Will Luxton comes to the crease, joining James Wharton, who has 1.

Yorkshire 107-1, 32.1 overs

Adam Lyth caught Jamie Overton bowled Dan Worrall, 47.

Caught first slip, ending a century opening stand with Fin Bean, who has 57.

Bean 50

Fin Bean reaches his fifty off 102 balls with 10x4s. Super knock.

Ideal start for Yorkshire as they move to 98-0 in the 32nd over. Adam Lyth has 42.

Yorkshire 86-0, 29 overs

Fin Bean 49 and Adam Lyth 34.

Play to resume shortly

The covers are off here at North Marine Road.

Don’t think that’ll be the last of the rain for today, but it does look like play will get underway in the next 5-10 minutes.

Rain stops play

Yorkshire are 82-0 after 26.4 overs, with Fin Bean 45 and Adam Lyth 34.

It looks likely that we will have an early lunch.

Excellent start for Yorkshire.

Yorkshire continue to thrive

Surrey haven’t quite been on it this morning with the ball or in the field.

There was the Dom Sibley drop at third slip with Fin Bean on 3, and there’s been a couple of other fumbles. With the ball, they haven’t threatened Bean or Adam Lyth. They have 34 and 29 respectively out of 65-0 in the 21st over.

Yorkshire 54-0, 16 overs

Fin Bean has twice driven Jamie Overton to the boundary in the 16th over, which has concluded with him on 25 and Adam Lyth on 28.

The first, back down the ground, was the shot of the morning.

The rain has arrived

The forecasters have been suggesting that we will get some rain from mid-afternoon onwards. Well, it has arrived a bit early. Not enough to take the players off the field, mind you.

Yorkshire are 40-0 in the 15th over. Adam Lyth has 24 and Fin Bean 15.

Yorkshire 26-0, 10 overs

The White Rose will be pretty chuffed with this start.

Adam Lyth has 16 and Fin Bean 10.

Life for Bean

Fin Bean has just been dropped at third slip by Dom Sibley off Matthew Fisher. Bean has 3 of 12-0 in the sixth over.

Yorkshire 11-0, 5th over

Things have quietened down since the couple of boundaries in the opening over for Adam Lyth.

The pitch has shown signs of being spongy. Plenty of bounce, but it’s not flying through to the keeper.

Early success for Lyth

Adam Lyth has driven two boundaries in the opening over from Dan Worrall. Yorkshire are 8-0.

Matthew Fisher is sharing the new ball.

Bean and Lyth opening

Dan Worrall has the new ball for Surrey.

Yorkshire Statement on Domestic Structure Review

Yorkshire win it and bat

Yorkshire: Adam Lyth, Fin Bean, James Wharton, Will Luxton, Jonny Bairstow c&w, Matthew Revis, Jordan Thompson, Will Sutherland, Dom Bess, Ben Coad, Jack White.

Surrey: Rory Burns c, Dom Sibley, Ryan Patel, Will Jacks, Dan Lawrence, Josh Blake w, Jamie Overton, Jordan Clark, Sai Kishore, Matthew Fisher, Dan Worrall.

Jonny Bairstow has said at the toss that Imam-Ul-Haq is unable to play because of visa issues.

Jonny is here

Jonny Bairstow’s partner is due to give birth imminently, but he is here and with that looks likely to play.

Yorkshire haven’t named a squad for this match as there have been a few things they needed to sort availability wise. That was one of them.

Will Luxton was pulled out of a Professional County Club Select XI squad to face Pakistan A in three 50-over matches and looks likely to play here.

Good morning…

From North Marine Road, where the sun is shining ahead of our 10th round Championship match against reigning champions and Division One leaders Surrey.

Yorkshire are bidding for a third win of the season, and a second in succession, having beaten Essex at York by 10 wickets chasing 41 at the start of the month.

The White Rose are three points clear of second-bottom Essex, while Surrey are a point clear of second-placed Nottinghamshire at the other end of the table.

Last time out, Surrey drew with Durham at the Kia Oval having posted 820-6 declared in their first innings. Opener Dom Sibley scored a triple century.
