Live: Hampshire v Yorkshire Men, Rothesay CC, Day Two

Hampshire hit back strongly late on with those three wickets after George Hill and Adam Lyth enjoyed good days.

Firmly in the balance this one heading into day three. Yorkshire lead by 111 with James Wharton and Matthew Revis at the crease.

Adam Lyth has been well caught at slip by Toby Albert going to his right off Felix Organ’s off-spin for a fine 51.

Yorkshire’s lead is 99, and Ben Cliff is in as nightwatchman alongside James Wharton, who has 9.

Adam Lyth reaches his fifty off 95 balls, the first of the match, and Yorkshire are 121-2, leading by 97.

Yorkshire’s lead is 75, with James Wharton in now alongside Adam Lyth, who has 40.

Yorkshire’s lead is now 45, with Sam Whiteman in alongside Adam Lyth, who has 26.

If Yorkshire can end the day nicely here, they will have a stranglehold on this game.

Yorkshire are into the lead at 36-0-0 inside eight overs, with Luxton taking them to that mini milestone with a pulled six off Sonny Baker, followed by two boundaries.

Yorkshire will be pretty chuffed with where they stand in his game now.

Tom Prest on 31 pushes what he thinks is a single off Ben Coad down the ground to George Hill at mid-0ff, gets almost the full way down before being sent back. The throw comes in and hits him on the ankle as he tries successfully to regain his ground.

Yorkshire are furious, appealing for obstructing the field. The umpires turn the appeal down.

A press box colleague has summed the start of the day up perfectly by saying that Nick Gubbins 36 and Tom Prest 29 have taken the sting out of the situation here.

Since the last post, the weather has improved significantly here at the Utilita Bowl, and it was by no means bad an hour and a half ago.

A few whispy clouds in the distance, but it’s sunny and warm.

Good news. We should have 102 overs in the day today as well.

From the Utilita Bowl, Southampton, where it’s a similar day weather wise to yesterday. We’re dry and bright at present ahead of an 11am start.

Day one was a helter-skelter affair, with both sides enjoying periods of success. Yorkshire were bowled out for 173 before limiting Hampshire’s reply to 60-4.

You feel a good morning will put Yorkshire in the ascendancy. Then it would be all about batting well second time around. Easier said than done all of that, of course.

It will be fascinating to see how the pitch plays. It turned yesterday and is expected do more so as the game wears on.
