8.40am – Good morning from Headingley, where it’s dry and overcast at present.
As things stand, we’re hopeful of a start on time at 10.30am for our final round Championship clash with Northamptonshire.
If you believe the forecasts, we were unlikely to see a ball bowled today. But there’s no sign of the rain just yet.
It’s been well documented what Yorkshire require to seal promotion over the last week, ever since they beat Glamorgan at Cardiff by 186 runs last Friday.
But, just to recap, the county need a maximum of 10 points to seal second place in Division Two and join Sussex in being promoted.
Yorkshire are 15 points clear of third-placed Middlesex, who are facing Sussex at Hove, with 24 available.
Finishing level on points would not be enough for Yorkshire. The tiebreakers are most wins and then fewest losses. Both counties have won five, lost two.
Then, the third tiebreaker is this season’s head-to-head record. Middlesex have the advantage having won at Lord’s at the start of the season before drawing at Headingley earlier this month.
