1.27pm – Play has been abandoned for the day here at Headingley.

12.55pm – The rain continues to fall here at Headingley, and there are puddles on the edge of the square. Things aren’t looking particularly promising.

12.14pm – Lunch will be taken here at Headingley at 12.30pm, with a further inspection at 1.10pm. The rain continues to fall.

11.45am – It’s hammering it down now here at Headingley now. They haven’t started at Hove either between Sussex and Middlesex.

11.42am – Whilst we have been delayed this morning, George Hill has been handed his first-team cap. He was presented with it by Jonny Bairstow in a presentation in the Hawke Suite.

11.28am – There will be a further inspection at midday here at Headingley, though it has just started raining as that announcement was made.

11.03am – There is an inspection taking place at present here at Headingley.

9.43am – We will have a delayed start here at Headingley. There will be an inspection at 10am.

9.20am – Yorkshire have just announced that Dom Bess has signed a new two-year contract through until the end of 2026.

Meanwhile, Adam Lyth and Jonny Tattersall are having a net over in front of the East Stand, but the ground-staff have put the full covers back on.

8.40am – Good morning from Headingley, where it’s dry and overcast at present.

As things stand, we’re hopeful of a start on time at 10.30am for our final round Championship clash with Northamptonshire.

If you believe the forecasts, we were unlikely to see a ball bowled today. But there’s no sign of the rain just yet.

It’s been well documented what Yorkshire require to seal promotion over the last week, ever since they beat Glamorgan at Cardiff by 186 runs last Friday.

But, just to recap, the county need a maximum of 10 points to seal second place in Division Two and join Sussex in being promoted.

Yorkshire are 15 points clear of third-placed Middlesex, who are facing Sussex at Hove, with 24 available.

Finishing level on points would not be enough for Yorkshire. The tiebreakers are most wins and then fewest losses. Both counties have won five, lost two.

Then, the third tiebreaker is this season’s head-to-head record. Middlesex have the advantage having won at Lord’s at the start of the season before drawing at Headingley earlier this month.
