Tom Kohler-Cadmore said:

“The ball’s moved around all day. Credit to their bowlers that they kept testing our forward defences and hammering away. They bowled nicely and put us under a lot of pressure.
“You’d always want more on the board, but I reckon we’d be about par with 200. I feel that’s competitive if we can get it right with the ball.
“Hopefully we can have a good day tomorrow and turn it into a one-innings game.
“It was the last thing everyone was expecting the way Lythy’s seeing the ball (out first ball of the match). But it shows how much of a leveller cricket is.”

7.05pm – Close Northants day after they bowled Yorkshire out for 206 and replied with 36-0 from 11. Parnell took 5-64 for them and Bess top-scored with 56 for the White Rose. All to do tomorrow.

6.57pm Two overs remaining in the day, and Northants are 27-0 replying to 206.

6.37pm Northants are 12-0 in the fourth of 11 overs to be bowled tonight. Thompson and Willey sharing the new ball. Vasconcelos has just cleared backward square-leg for six off the former.

6.15pm WICKET Olivier aught behind off Parnell (5-64) as Yorkshire are 206 all out. 11 overs remaining in the day.

6.11pm Bess miscues a pull at Berg to mid-wicket, falling for 56. 206-9.

6.10pm Fifty for Bess – excellent battling innings – 92- balls and nine fours. Yorkshire now 200-8. We’re inside the day’s final 15 overs.

5.58pm WICKET Willey caught behind off Parnell for 12. Yorkshire 186-8. South African Parnell now has four-for. Bess unbeaten on 46.

5.35pm WICKET Thompson bowled by Parnell for 17. 160-7.

5.31pm Yorkshire have advanced to 157-6 after 55 overs. Bess has 30 and Thompson 17. Still 22 overs to bowl. Given the overcast conditions, it would be a surprise of we got them all in. But the lights haven’t been used since before lunch.

4.57pm WICKET Tattersall caught chest high at third slip by Berg off Sanderson for 26. Yorkshire 137-6 in the 47th, breaking a 57-run stand with Bess (27). Thompson comes to the crease.

4.46pm Tattersall and Bess have shared 57 unbroken for the sixth wicket, taking Yorkshire to 137-5 in the 43rd over. Tattersall 26 and Bess 27.

Tea Report Jonny Tattersall and Dom Bess are attempting to recover the damage of three wickets lost for 13 runs during the early stages of the opening afternoon against Northamptonshire at Emerald Headingley.

The White Rose had reached lunch at 67-2 from 21.3 overs, with only three balls bowled and no runs scored between 12.30pm and 2.50pm due to bad light and rain.

They then slipped to 80-5 after 27 overs, losing Gary Ballance and Harry Brook cheaply and Tom Kohler-Cadmore for 42.

Yorkshire, inserted this morning, have since reached tea at 128-5 from 40 overs, with Tattersall 26 not out and Bess 18.

Nineteen overs have been cut from the day’s allotted 96 due to the weather.

Wayne Parnell struck twice and Gareth Berg once shortly after lunch.

Parnell had Ballance (4) caught at first slip by Ben Curran via a rebound off Rob Keogh’s right hand at second before trapping Brook lbw for nought.

Berg then bowled Kohler-Cadmore and ended his sixth over with figures of 2-2.

Tattersall and Bess have since shared a considered 48 for the sixth wicket, capitalising on anything loose. There are 37 overs remaining in the day.

4.11pm – Tea Yorkshire reach 128-5 from 40 overs, with Tattersall 26 and Bess 18. They have shared 48 unbroken following the loss of 3-13 at the start of the afternoon.

4.01pm Closing stages of the afternoon, and Yorkshire’s recovery is going ok. Tattersall (21) and Bess (14) have taken the score to 119-5 in the 39th over.

3.40pm Tattersall and Bess have shared 26 unbroken to take the score to 106-5 in the 34th over. Tattersall 13 and Bess 9.

3.13pm WICKET Berg bowls Kohler-Cadmore for 42. 80-5 after 27.

3.05pm WICKET Nightmare start to the afternoon as Brook falls lbw to Parnell for nought. 76-4.

2.59pm WICKET Ballance gone! Caught at first slip on the rebound from second slip. Curran finally takes the catch off Parnell, and Ballance falls for four. 76-3.

2.50pm Up and running again here. 19 overs in total have been lost from the day’s 96. At 67-1 after 22 overs, we have 55 remaining. Kohler-Cadmore 42 and Ballance 0.

2.33pm The rain has disappeared from Emerald Headingley, and the plan is a 2.50pm restart.

2.08pm Frustrating. Play restarts and there’s only enough time to complete the 22nd over before rain returns. Three balls bowled, no runs added. Yorkshire 67-2.

1.46pm We have a confirmed restart in 20 minutes from now.

1.31pm Rain has disappeared and the covers are nearly off as well. Fingers crossed, we won’t be long.

1.11pm The rain continues to fall, so the afternoon session will be delayed.

Lunch Report Yorkshire have reached 67-2 inside 22 overs during an eventful shortened morning session against Northamptonshire at Emerald Headingley.

The opening day of this LV= Insurance County Championship fixture was interrupted just before 12.30pm because of bad light, with hail following almost immediately to force an early lunch.

Invited to bat first, the White Rose lost Adam Lyth to the first ball of the match as he was bowled, seemingly off his pad as he tried to leave alone, by Ben Sanderson.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore has reached lunch at 42 not out with six boundaries – the pick, a beautiful on-driven four straight of mid-on off former Yorkshire seamer Sanderson. It is the opener’s highest score of the season.

Will Fraine has replaced rested Joe Root as the only change from the team which beat Sussex at Hove last week, and he batted at three.

Fraine was the other wicket to fall when trapped lbw by Gareth Berg as he played to leg in what proved to be the penultimate over of the morning. He made 11, and Yorkshire were 66-2 in the 21st.

Gary Ballance is yet to get off the mark.

The Northants’ seamers have beaten the bat regularly, but they have also offered the hosts plenty of scoring opportunities.

12.28pm BAD LIGHT: Umpires Cook and Millns take the players off at 67-2 in the 22nd. Kohler-Cadmore 42 and Ballance 0.

It has started hailing now.

12.24pm Play taking place under floodlights now. 67-2 in the 22nd. Ballance in at four.

12.22pm WICKET Fraine lbw Berg, 11. Yorkshire 66-2 in the 21st.

12.19pm The sky looks quite ominous out the back of the Carnegie Pavilion. Fingers crossed, it’s heading away from the ground. The light has dimmed in the last five minutes, but Yorkshire still advancing well at 66-1.

12.11pm Mixed bag from Northants this morning. Plenty of run-scoring opportunities, but they’ve beaten the bat regularly. 61-1 after 18.

11.56am Healthy recovery for Yorkshire from 0-1 after one ball. The White Rose are now 55-1 in the 15th. Kohler-Cadmore 36 and Fraine 10.

11.49am Yorkshire have scored at a healthy rate, moving to 46-1 in the 13th. Kohler-Cadmore’s 27 includes a lovely on driven boundary straight of mid-on. Fraine also has 10. But Yorkshire could easily have been 40-3. Plenty of encouragement for the bowlers.

11.30am Very interesting opening half hour sees Yorkshire move to 22-1 after eight overs. Kohler-Cadmore 14 and Fraine 2. Seems to be a bit of movement on offer from the press box vantage point at long-on/third-man. A few have beaten the bat.

Keogh has just dropped Fraine (2) at second slip, going to his right, off Sanderson. Went for two – 24-1 in the ninth.

11.16am Yorkshire 16-1 after four overs. Kohler-Cadmore 10, Fraine 0.

11.14am Elsewhere around the country in this round.

Derbyshire v Nottinghamshire, County Ground
Durham v Warwickshire, Riverside
Worcestershire v Essex, New Road
Gloucestershire v Leicestershire, Bristol
Somerset v Middlesex, Taunton
Surrey v Hampshire, Oval
Glamorgan v Kent, Sophia Gardens
Sussex v Lancashire, Hove

11am WICKET Would you believe it. Lyth has tried to leave the first ball of the match alone from Sanderson and has played on. 0-1.

10.50am Team news…..

Yorkshire: Lyth, Kohler-Cadmore, Fraine, Ballance, Brook, Tattersall w, Bess, Thompson, Willey, Patterson c, Olivier.

Northants: Curran, Vasconcelos c&w, Thurston, Keogh, Procter, Zaib, Taylor, Parnell, Berg, Kerrigan, Sanderson.

10.34am Toss. Northants have won it and will be bowling first.

Good morning from Emerald Headingley.

The sun is breaking through as we get set for our fourth LV= Insurance County Championship match of the season, welcoming Northants.

Unbeaten Yorkshire are searching for a third win to add to the opening round draw against Glamorgan here at the start of the month.

The last fortnight has brought back-to-back away wins over Kent and Sussex.

We could leapfrog Lancashire to the top of Group Three depending on their result at Sussex this week.

Northants come into this clash on the back of an impressive run chase against Glamorgan at Wantage Road on Sunday, when they overhauled a 355 target to win by seven wickets. They have won one, lost one and drawn one so far.

They will be without captain and wicketkeeper Adam Rossington because of a finger injury. Ricardo Vasconcelos is due to deputise in both roles.

Yorkshire, meanwhile, will be without rested Joe Root for this week. Will Fraine comes in following a recent 186 in the second team.

The stream will be available once more. We get underway at 11am. Enjoy the day.
