Tea Report Yorkshire are locked in a nip and tuck chase of 241 to beat Gloucestershire at Headingley and guarantee their LV= Insurance County Championship Division One future.
A damaging five-wicket afternoon collapse has left the county on 151-6 at tea on day three, needing 90 more to win.
Yorkshire advanced with some confidence to 69-1, with second-wicket pair Adam Lyth and George Hill sharing 64 either side of lunch after the target had been set during the morning.
Both played nicely but were then part of a loss of five wickets to fall for 50 in 17 overs as the score became 119-6 in the 38th shortly before tea.
Hill was trapped lbw by Ajeet Singh Dale for 36 before Tom Kohler-Cadmore lofted Pakistan left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar to long-off, falling for seven on his final Yorkshire appearance.
Jonny Tattersall also fell for seven, bowled by England ODI seamer David Payne, who also bowled Harry Duke off the inside edge as he attempted to leave alone.
Lyth, on 49, then gloved a vicious delivery from Gohar to slip, one that turned and bounced, leaving Yorkshire six down and still 122 runs from victory.
Dom Bess has reached tea at 32 with Jordan Thompson on 10. They have given the hosts some respite, including 10 coming off the final over of the session from Tom Price.

Lunch Report Yorkshire need 241 to beat Gloucestershire at Headingley and secure top-flight LV= Insurance County Championship cricket for another season.
Gloucestershire, 204-6 in their second innings overnight, were bowled out for 233 before Yorkshire reached lunch at 36-1 in 11 overs.
George Hill struck twice in as many overs, getting Gloucester’s Price brothers – Ollie was bowled with his second ball for a well made 68 before Tom was trapped lbw.
Steve Patterson had made the initial breakthrough, trapping Zafar Gohar lbw for his 489th and final first-class wicket – 217-7, a lead of 224.
Hill then claimed his two wickets before Ajeet Singh Dale was run out by a direct hit at the non-striker’s end by Matthew Fisher from mid-off, wrapping up the innings.
As he walked off, Patterson received a standing ovation from the crowd and team-mates alike as he prepares to farewell the club this week.
James Wharton then dragged the fourth ball of Yorkshire’s chase onto his stumps from Tom Price, leaving the score at 5-1.
But Adam Lyth and Hill have since batted confidently to ensure an encouraging position at lunch, with 16 and 14 respectively.

9.03am Hopefully, fingers crossed, the Warwickshire game against Hampshire at Edgbaston will not coming into the reckoning over the next couple of days.
But if it does, it’s worth considering the way forwards in that game, which is the one that matters now that Kent are safe.
So let’s recap. Yorkshire came into this game 15 points clear of the second-bottom Bears, knowing a maximum haul of 10 points would do the trick. We have already claimed three of those – effectively an 18-point lead.
Warwickshire claimed two batting points with 272-4 declared, so need 16 more for the win to leapfrog Yorkshire on the first tie-breaker (most wins – two to one).
How are they going to do that?
The early declaration on 272-4 was interesting last night.
After a rainy two days at Edgbaston, they clearly thought, ‘We need to take 20 wickets to win, let’s get cracking as quickly as possible’.
If they can bowl Hampshire out for 200 ish somewhere around tea-time, surely they will be delighted. Then they can push on with the bat and set a victory target tomorrow.
Hampshire’s situation in the table comes into consideration and is actually a positive for Yorkshire.
They started the game needing five points to secure second place from Lancashire and some extra prize money.
They have only got one of those points so far after the early declaration.
That means they need to get 350 with the bat inside 110 overs to secure second spot.
Lancashire are on course to get the maximum haul of 24 points in their game against Surrey, so Hampshire have to assume they will win and get 350.
Surely, with the time remaining in the game, if Hampshire do get 350 conventionally, that makes it incredibly difficult for Warwickshire.
The word conventionally is key here, as there is always the possibility for a contrived finish at Edgbaston.
Clear as mud! But, at this stage of the season, it is always worth expecting the unexpected.
Let’s just hope the lads do the business today and tomorrow and ensure we don’t have to worry about anything going on in the second city.
Good morning from Headingley, where it is a glorious sunny morning ahead of day three of our LV= Insurance County Championship clash with Gloucestershire, the final one of 2022.
Gloucestershire will get going at 10.30am on 204-6 in their second innings, a lead of 211.
Yorkshire struck late last night before rain intervened to cut six overs from the day’s allocation. That means we will have 104 overs allotted for the day today, as was the case yesterday.
From here, Yorkshire need to win or draw to ensure Division One safety for another season.
This has been a nip and tuck contest all the way through, and there will be more twists and turns to come.
But a fast start to the morning with the ball would be absolutely ideal. The pitch is good, though each morning session has proved tricky for batting. Fingers crossed that continues for an hour and then things ease.
