3.13pm Rain will delay the start of the evening session. Coming down quite hard at Headingley now.

Tea Report Yorkshire have been bowled for 134 inside 53 overs during the opening afternoon of the LV= Insurance County Championship clash with Essex at Headingley.

George Hill top-scored with 36 and Jonny Tattersall added 32, the pair both falling in the early stages of the afternoon as Yorkshire advanced with difficultly from 58-4 at lunch.

Hill was caught behind off new ball seamer Sam Cook before captain Tattersall was bowled by fellow pacer Shane Snater as the score fell to 100-7 in the 41st over.

The Essex pair claimed three wickets apiece.

Ben Coad hit two boundaries in one Snater over and hoisted him for a straight six in a useful 17 before fending a Ben Allison bouncer onto his stumps.

Matthew Revis and Jordan Thompson also fell during the afternoon before Jamie Porter wrapped up the innings by trapping Jack Shutt lbw.

The players have taken tea approximately 15 minutes early as a result.

2.56pm WICKET! Shutt trapped lbw by Porter for four, and Yorkshire are all out for 134 inside 53 overs. Tea will be taken.

2.54pm Resistance from last wicket pair Patterson and Shutt, who have nine and four respectively. They have taken Yorkshire to 133-9 after 52 overs.

2.26pm WICKET! Coad tries to fend a bouncer from Allison away and it deflects onto his stumps for a useful 17. Yorkshire 123-9 in the 46th.

2.22pm Coad, with 17 including a superb straight six off Snater, and Patterson have added 23 for the ninth wicket. 123-8 in the 45th.

2.07pm WICKET! Nasty start to the afternoon for Yorkshire as Allison gets Thompson caught at first slip by Cook off Allison for five. Yorkshire 100-8 in the 42nd.

1.41pm Essex’s Sam Cook has taken three wickets today, including his 200th in first-class cricket. He has become the first English bowler in more than half a century to reach the 200-wicket mark with an average below 20.

Ben Coad was within a whisker of achieving that last week during the Lancashire game.

Derbyshire’s Alan Ward was the last to achieve it in 1971.

Yorkshire are 79-5 in the 37th over. Tattersall 16 and Revis two.

1.16pm WICKET! Hill has been caught behind for 36 off Cook. Yorkshire slip to 64-5.

1.11pm Play is up and running after lunch. Yorkshire 60-4 in the 29th over. Hill 32, Tattersall 3.

Lunch Report Yorkshire have endured a testing morning with bat in hand at the start of their LV= Insurance County Championship clash with Essex at Headingley.

The county, having been inserted under an overcast sky, have reached lunch at 58-4 from 28 overs.

George Hill has held firm against swing and seam for an unbeaten 32, but openers Fin Bean and Adam Lyth were both removed cheaply before the departures of Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Will Fraine.

Yorkshire have opted against selecting Ben Mike, who has joined on loan from Leicestershire for the rest of the season ahead of his permanent move to Headingley this winter.

Instead, they have picked Matthew Revis and Jack Shutt in place of Matthew Waite and Dom Bess.

Openers Bean and Lyth were both caught behind off Sam Cook and Jamie Porter for nought and 13 respectively, leaving Yorkshire at 22-2 in the ninth over.

Play has taken place under floodlights all morning at Headingley, where Kohler-Cadmore drove his first ball for four and then hit one run off his next 43 balls.

He edged his 44th ball, against Cook, to third slip in the 24th over before Shane Snater bowled Fraine for nought in the next, leaving the score at 56-4.

Hill has looked assured, driving, pulling and cutting a quartet of boundaries, and he will be joined after lunch by captain Jonny Tattersall, who has one.

12.31pm – Lunch Yorkshire have reached 58-4 from 28 overs. Hill 32 and Tattersall 1.

12.18pm WICKET! Fraine bowled by Snater, 0. Yorkshire 56-4 in the 26th over. Captain Tattersall walks to the crease.

12.10pm WICKET! Kohler-Cadmore caught at third slip by Lawrence off Cook for five. Yorkshire 55-3 in the 24th over. Hill has 30 and will be joined at the crease by Fraine.

11.45am England have beaten South Africa by nine wickets at the Oval, winning the series 2-1. Ben Stokes and co have won six out of seven Tests this summer.

11.39am Yorkshire have moved to 43-2 after 16 overs. Hill 19 and Kohler-Cadmore 5. Famous last words, but these two look fairly secure amidst challenging conditions.

11.07am WICKET! Lyth caught been for 13 off Porter. Yorkshire 22-2 in the ninth over.

11.04am Yorkshire have steadied following the early loss of Fin Bean. We are 22-1 after eight overs. Lyth 13 and Hill seven.

10.46am WICKET! Early success for Essex comes courtesy of Sam Cook, who gets Bean caught behind for nought. Yorkshire 4-1 in the fourth over.

10.29am The live stream link is below.

10.20am Before play, there will be a minute’s silence in memory of Queen Elizabeth II followed by the national anthem.

10.18am Yorkshire: Lyth, Bean, Hill, Kohler-Cadmore, Fraine, Revis, Tattersall c&w, Thompson, Patterson, Coad, Shutt.

Essex: Browne, A Cook, Westley c, Lawrence, Critchley, Khushi, Rossington, Snater, Allison, S Cook, Porter.

10.11am Essex have won the toss and will bowl. Start on time planned.

10.01am The covers are all off the field, and the captains are out there in the middle.

Good morning from Headingley, where it is a dry but overcast start to the day.

It is looking doubtful over a start on time at 10.30am for our latest Championship fixture, against Essex.

The covers have been on and off the pitch in the last 20 minutes or so. Whilst it is not raining now, it looks as if the ground staff are expecting something imminent. They have just put the covers back on.

Ottis Gibson has just walked across the field to the East Stand indoor nets, so it seems both sides will be netting inside for now. He has been followed by Ben Mike, who has signed on loan for the final three Championship games ahead of his permanent move from Leicestershire.

When we do get underway, this will be a clash between a Yorkshire side who are sixth in the table and an Essex side who are fourth. They have named the likes of Alastair Cook and Dan Lawrence in their squad.

There are suggestions that we are in for quite a disruptive day weather wise. So we shall keep our fingers crossed.

There will be the usual stream available when we do get going. Enjoy the day.
