Adam Lyth post day one
“The first two sessions were fantastic for us, and then it was indifferent in the last.
“The young lad Ollie played well, so hats off to him. But we’ll come back tomorrow, and hopefully we can wrap it up and get batting.
“On the whole, the lads bowled well. But that last 25 overs, we didn’t get it right.
“We had a missed stumping and a couple of dropped catches, which happens, and it could have been totally different.”
We are off for bad light and almost surely the day with only 3.3 overs to bowl.

5.35pm Impressive Surrey recovery this…They have reached 314-7 in the 86th over of the day, with Ollie Pope posting his century in the last five minutes.
5.20pm Jack Brooks has done the trick with the new ball. He has got Rikki Clarke caught at second slip by Adam Lyth for 71. Surrey 291-7 in the 82nd over.
4.55pm Rikki Clarke has just reached a 65-ball fifty, including a whipped six off Tim Bresnan over mid-wicket. 254-6.
4.20pm We are just about to resume after tea. We had a very short delay as batsman Ollie Pope was distracted by pigeons behind the bowler’s arm. So it was left to Joe Root to frighten them off by running at them from mid-off. 213-6.
Tea Report
Surrey reached tea at 209-6 from 64 overs on day one against Yorkshire at the Kia Oval.
The hosts advanced from 97-4 at lunch, losing Dean Elgar for 61 and Sam Curran for 19.
Elgar lost his leg stump as he played all around a Joe Root delivery as the hosts slipped to 137-5 before Curran edged behind to become Steve Patterson’s second victim shortly afterwards.
Ollie Pope, 20, reached a 107-ball fifty shortly before tea, while Rikki Clarke helped him take Surrey beyond 200 for a first batting point.
They will resume after tea on 54 and 28 respectively.
Oh no. Pujara puts down Clarke on 16 at first slip off Shaw. The scores moves to 199-6 in the 62nd.

3.37pm Close call for Ollie Pope as he reaches a 107-ball fifty. He drops one down into the covers and is nearly run out at the non-striker’s end, having to dive to make his ground. Think it was Alex Lees with the throw.
3.10pm Steve Patterson strikes again, getting Sam Curran caught behind for 19. Surrey are 162-6. Rikki Clarke joins Ollie Pope (36) at the crease.
2.40pm Elgar doesn’t make the most of that life as he’s bowled playing all around one from Joe Root and loses his leg stump for 61. Surrey are 137-5. Pope has 30.
Life for Elgar on 61 as Bairstow can’t hold onto a stumping chance off Root – 137-4.

Lunch Report
Yorkshire have enjoyed a productive opening morning of their Specsavers County Championship match against Surrey at the Kia Oval, restricting the hosts to 92-4 from 29 overs.
The White Rose, captained by Joe Root due to Gary Ballance’s illness, opted for an uncontested toss and to bowl first this morning, with Josh Shaw also replacing injured Ben Coad (ankle).
Shaw was one of four wicket-takers.
Tim Bresnan started things off by trapping England opener Mark Stoneman for 10 in the seventh over, leaving the score at 15-1.
Jacks Brooks then had Rory Burns caught at first slip with a beauty shortly afterwards, his 400th career wicket, as the hosts slipped to 19-2 in the eighth.
Shaw struck with his second ball as Scott Borthwick edged him to second slip in the 14th – 40-3 – and when Steve Patterson had Ben Foakes (18) caught behind, it was 69-4 in the 23rd.
South Africa Test opener Dean Elgar has 37 not out and Ollie Pope 13.
12.35pm Ben Foakes edges Steve Patterson behind, playing forwards and is undone by a bit of away swing, 18. Surrey are 69-4.
