“It’s been frustrating. Preparations have been tough. We haven’t had nets on the morning, there’s no Indoor Centre on an outground – it’s not been ideal.
“We bowled well in patches but not for long enough.
“Credit to Surrey, they batted well to get themselves in that position.
“With the bat this morning, we took the position we were in for granted and weren’t quite switched on. If you’re not switched on against good sides like Surrey, they can do some damage to you. That’s what they did.
“There was a tricky little period at the end there, but we got a draw out of the game.
“It hasn’t burst the bubble. We weren’t at our best, but we’re still playing some good cricket and still have some good confidence in the camp.
(Weather interruptions make it difficult?) “It does because you’re coming into today thinking about bonus points, which takes away from the process. You don’t want to thinking about the outcome. Lads talk about rain and light, and it’s not easy. It can distract you. I thought that’s what happened this morning with the bat.
“You talk about being switched on and getting into the battle from ball one, and we didn’t. We were right on the back foot and batting to save the game. It’s a lesson to us all.”
4.58pm Match drawn. Yorkshire remain unbeaten after six matches, two wins and four draws. Bad light halts play with them 30-0 in their second innings following on.
4.48pm No alarms for Yorkshire in their second innings. They are 24-0 after 11. 23 to be bowled, but I would be surprised if we don’t see a handshake on the draw at 5pm.

Division One
Canterbury (day 4): Kent 139 & 59 v Somerset 169 & 30-0. Somerset (19pts) beat Kent (3) by 10 wickets
Kent lost their last eight wickets inside 46 minutes as leaders Somerset dodged the showers to clinch a dramatic 10-wicket win and extend their lead at the top of Division One.
After the morning session was washed out, Lewis Gregory took 5 for 21 to give him career-best match figures of 11 for 53 as Kent’s last eight wickets fell for 27 runs in the space of 10.2 overs. It was the second ten-wicket haul of Gregory’s career. Somerset have won five of their six games and are 26 points clear of second-placed Hampshire while this was Kent’s fourth defeat.
Guildford (day 4): Surrey 313 v Yorkshire 148
Yorkshire were forced to follow on after losing nine wickets for 97 runs between the showers today. Morne Morkel took 4 for 43 with debutant Jordan Thompson top scoring with 34.
Division Two
Chester-le-Street (day 4): Durham 253 v Northamptonshire 254 for 6
No play today due to rain. Match abandoned as a draw. Durham 7pts, Northants 10.
Leicester (day 4): Leicestershire v Middlesex
No play today due to rain and only eight overs were possible in the match. Leicestershire 5pts, Middlesex 6.
New Road (day 4): Worcestershire 98 v Lancashire 110 for 3
No play today, match abandoned as a draw. Worcestershire 6pts, Lancashire 8.
Arundel: Sussex 351 v Gloucestershire (day 3) 96 for 2
Gloucestershire skipper Chris Dent made an unbeaten 51 before rain arrived. Play is due to resume at 4pm.
Swansea: Glamorgan 394 v Derbyshire 299 for 2 (day 3)
Skipper Billy Godleman and Tom Lace have both made unbeaten centuries and added 225 for Derbyshire’s second wicket. Lace’s is his maiden Championship hundred while Godleman now has 13 for the county.
Tea Yorkshire have been made to follow-on with 38 overs remaining in their Specsavers County Championship match against Surrey at Guildford having been bowled out for 148 in reply to 313.
Yorkshire began the afternoon session, starting late at 2.35pm following rain, at 95-7, only for Steve Patterson, Ben Coad and Jordan Thompson to fall – the latter for an innings-high score of 34.
Tea is now being taken.
Morne Morkel finished with 4-43, including Coad bowled. His wicket was sandwiched in between Patterson caught behind off Rikki Clarke and Thompson caught at long-leg off Matt Dunn.
Thompson and Duanne Olivier had shared 34 for the 10th wicket inside six overs.
Yorkshire, who lost all 10 wickets for 97 runs having been 51-0 yesterday, fell 16 runs short of avoiding the follow-on.

2.53pm Patterson is caught behind by Foakes off Clarke for 6. Yorkshire 109-8. 164 follow-on target.
2.50pm Crikey. Kent have been bowled out for 59 by Somerset at Canterbury, meaning Somerset need just 30 to win their fifth game in six this season.
2.14pm We are due to start at 2.30pm. 53.3 overs left in the day. Yorkshire will resume on 95-7.
2pm The ground staff have done a remarkable job here this week given the amount of rain we’ve had. They continue to clear up, but there’s no update on a restart time yet.

Lunch Yorkshire lost six wickets during a helter-skelter, rain-affected, fourth morning against Surrey at Guildford, reaching lunch on 95-7 in reply to 313.
The weather will surely thwart Surrey’s last-ditched attempt to win this Specsavers County Championship match out of nowhere, with two separate rain breaks halting play, including one from 12.05pm to signal an early lunch at 12.45pm.
Yorkshire started the day on 58-1 and lost Gary Ballance for six to the day’s first ball, caught in the gully by Dean Elgar off Morne Morkel.
South African quick Morkel struck three times in his first two overs, while Jordan Clark was later on a hat-trick – something he achieved against Yorkshire whilst playing for Lancashire last year.
After removing Ballance at the start of the 23rd over of the innings, Morkel then had Will Fraine (25) and Jack Leaning (4) caught behind in his next, with the latter brilliantly caught one-handed by a diving Ben Foakes in front of first slip.
That left Yorkshire at 79-4 after 25 overs.
Then, in the 31st, with Clark having replaced Morkel at the Pavilion End following a morning spell of 3-19 from four overs, Jonny Tattersall and Dom Bess were both caught at first slip by Rikki Clarke (93-6) before debutant Jordan Thompson survived hat-trick ball.
The players immediately left the field for rain at 11.40am, only to return 10 minutes later.
But there was only another 15 minutes of play before the rain returned, in which time Tom Kohler-Cadmore was caught behind down leg off Rikki Clarke, leaving Yorkshire at 93-7 in the 32nd.
Yorkshire must reach 164 to avoid having to follow-on.

Good morning from Guildford.
Despite heavy overnight rain in the area last night and throughout yesterday, there is every chance of a start on time at 11am for day four. That is as long as we don’t get more rain, which there is every chance I’m told by those who look at forecasts.
The ground staff here this week have done a remarkable job to deal with the amount of rain we’ve had.
When we do get underway, Yorkshire will be replying to Surrey’s first-innings 313 and are 58-1.
Both camps have very much poured cold water on the idea that a contrivance may be agreed, so this final day will just be a pursuit of bonus points in a draw.
