“It was important that we got a couple of really good partnerships, and it gave us a chance to dictate terms towards the back end of the day.

“Lythy’s in cracking form, and he’s played lovely all season. Let’s be honest, he saved us in the last game almost single-handedly. That was a brilliant innings.
“In the first innings here, he looked like he was batting on a completely different wicket to the rest of the guys. He was hitting the ball so fluently.
“It’s great to see him in that form.
“Brooky, as well, he’s hitting the ball so fluently. It’s a joy to watch him bat at the minute.
“He’s got a slightly new technique as well, and he looks like he’s got so much time and is hitting the ball so hard. It’s really impressive to see.”

Tea Report Centurion Adam Lyth and Joe Root batted unbroken through the shortened afternoon session on day three as Yorkshire move towards a lead of 300 against Kent at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.
Yorkshire advanced their second innings from 113-2 from 30 overs to 171-2 from 47, a lead of 285.
The game has been paused between 2.50pm and 4.10pm so as not to coincide with the funeral of HRH Prince Philip, with tea taken within that break.
In moving from 75 at lunch to 101 not out at tea, Lyth has posted his second century in three innings after his 115 not out against Glamorgan last weekend.
He reached his 26th first-class career hundred off 142 balls with 13 fours minutes before the end of the session.
Root’s 36 not out also represents his highest score in four LV= Insurance County Championship innings this season.
There are 43 overs left to be bowled in the day.

Lunch Report Adam Lyth continued his fabulous start to 2021 by passing 50 for the sixth time in as many innings as Yorkshire strengthened their position during the third morning against Kent at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.
Leading by 120 at the start of the day – at 6-0 from two overs in their second innings – Yorkshire have since advanced to 113-2 from 30, a lead of 227.
The first of the two wickets to fall came when Tom Kohler-Cadmore edged Grant Stewart’s seam to first slip, falling for three, as the visitors slipped to 24-1 in the sixth over – the fourth of the day.
But Lyth, strong on the drive again as he was in scoring 97 in the first innings, has moved to an unbeaten 75.
In reaching 36, he became the first player in this season’s LV= Insurance County Championship to reach 300 runs and went on to post his fifty in 59 balls, including seven fours.
Tom Loten made 21 before he was trapped lbw by Matt Milnes inside the final 15 minutes of the morning, leaving the score at 99-2 in the 27th over.
Joe Root will begin the afternoon session unbeaten on five.

The sun is shining, and it is a lovely morning despite the obvious chill in the air.
Yorkshire are firmly on top in this game, and a good couple of sessions worth of batting today will ensure a win is in sight.
We are playing to different timings on day three so as not to clash with HRH Prince Philip’s funeral at 3pm. There will be no play between 2.50pm and 4.10pm, but we do play on until 6.30pm or whenever the allotted number of overs are bowled.
In an ideal world, you would suspect that Yorkshire will want an hour’s worth of bowling tonight.
They will begin the day on 6-0 in their second innings, leading by 120.
