“I’m disappointed for the lads in the dressing room. We came this morning and knew we had to bat well to get back into the game. They bowled well – they have a good quality attack – and we lost wickets.
“Every game we’ve played has gone to 5.30pm on the last day. We’ve had a lot of draws, so I’m disappointed we weren’t able to win this. But I’m proud of the way we fought.
“There are small margins in the game all the time. When we had them eight down for 330 in their first innings, that’s a turning point.
“We again missed a couple of chances which has plagued us all year. Again, you could say that’s cost us.
“It was also a telling moment when Barker and Abbott bowled 11 or 12 overs on the bounce yesterday afternoon from both ends.”
“190 is always in the batting side’s favour, so we had to work hard on a good pitch. Dom Bess bowled nicely, Jordan lovely. Like I said, I can’t fault the effort.”

5.53pm Hampshire seal a two-wicket victory with 13.4 overs remaining. Super game of cricket, but we have come out on the wrong side. That’s our first defeat of the season in seven matches.

5.47pm WICKET Dawson caught at long-leg hooking against Revis, 67. It’s 190-8. Hampshire still need seven to win.

5.39pm Hampshire need 11 to win. They are 186-7. Dawson has 63 and Fuller 12.

5.30pm WICKET Barker caught behind down leg pulling at Drakes, 21. It’s 170-7 in the 42nd over. Hampshire need 27 more to win.

5.17pm Dawson reaches his fifty off 54 balls with 8×4s and 1×6s. 53 stand unbroken with Barker. It’s 156-6 in the 39th over. 41 more for the hosts to win, four wickets for Yorkshire.

5.13pm Dawson takes the lion’s share of 16 off the over from Bess, the 38th, as Hampshire move to 150-6, needing 47 more in 21 overs.

5.10pm Hampshire have moved to 135-6, needing another 62 to win inside 22 overs. Dawson 32 and Barker 14.

4.46pm The Diamonds have won their friendly with Lightning by 58 runs in Loughborough, bowling the hosts out for 138 in pursuit of 197. Rachel Slater 3-21 and Yvonne Graves 3-13.

4.37pm WICKET Donald bowled through the gate by Patterson, 5. It’s 108-6 in the 31st over. 94 to win for Hampshire in 28.3 overs.

4.25pm WICKET Yes. Bess gets Brown brilliantly caught at slip by Lyth. It’s 94-5. 197 target.

4.14pm Early stages of the evening session, and Hampshire, chasing 197 in 59 overs, have moved to 90-4 in the 26th. Bess and Patterson take up the search for wickets.

Tea Report Yorkshire remain very much in the hunt for an LV= Insurance County Championship victory over Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl heading into the final session, with the hosts reaching tea 80-4 as they pursue a 197 target.

Jordan Thompson twice, Steve Patterson and Dom Bess have struck, with key man James Vince departing for 22.

Earlier, Yorkshire’s second innings was wrapped up for 178 in the opening 20 minutes of the afternoon, with Dominic Drakes (21) and Steve Patterson falling to Ian Holland and Brad Wheal.

Hampshire’s chase started with a minimum of 59 overs remaining in the game.

Thompson removed openers Felix Organ and Ian Holland, caught at third slip by Harry Brook diving across second and lbw respectively as the score slipped to 23-2 after nine overs.

A 55 partnership between Vince and Nick Gubbins saw Gubbins pulled Matthew Revis for six and Vince sweep Dom Bess over the ropes.

However, there was revenge ahead for the Yorkshire off-spinner.

After Steve Patterson trapped Gubbins lbw for 42, leaving Hampshire 78-3 in the 19th over, Bess had Vince caught behind in the next (80-4). There were no further runs added before tea, with Liam Dawson and Ben Brown yet to get off the mark.

Revis had top-scored with an unbeaten 28 in Yorkshire’s second innings.

3.42pm – Tea Super end to the afternoon for Yorkshire with a couple of late wickets. Hampshire are 80-4 after 22 overs in their pursuit of 197 in 59. Dawson and Brown yet to get off the mark.

3.35pm WICKET Now then, now then. Vince caught behind off Bess for 22. It’s 80-4 in the 20th over of 59. 197 target for Hampshire. Brown and Dawson both on nought.

3.29pm WICKET Gubbins trapped lbw by Patterson for 42. It’s 78-3 in the 19th of 59 overs. Hampshire are chasing 197.

3.05pm Spooky that both Yorkshire and the Diamonds are defending 197 in their respective fixtures today. Lightning are 66-4 in the 13th over up at Loughborough, including three wickets for Rachel Slater.

Here, Hampshire have moved to 50-2.

2.56pm Key passage of play coming up as Vince and Gubbins bid to advance Hampshire’s cause. They are 36-2 chasing 197.

2.47pm WICKET Holland lbw Thompson, 6. It’s 23-2 in the ninth over of 59. 197 target. Vince and Gubbins together now.

2.20pm WICKET Thompson gets Organ caught by Brook at third slip diving across second, 8. It’s 12-1 after three overs. 197 target.

2.10pm Hampshire’s chase of 197 is underway with a couple of boundaries off the first two balls from Organ off Thompson’s bowling. 8-0. Both sides have 59 overs to work with.

2.04pm At Loughborough, the Diamonds have been bowled out for 196, including 73 for Lauren Winfield-Hill and 47 for Jenny Gunn.

2pm WICKET Patterson bowled by Wheal, 5. Yorkshire 178 all out and have set Hampshire 197 with a minimum of 59 overs. Revis 28 not out.

1.43pm WICKET Oh no. Drakes has edged the first ball of the afternoon, from Holland, to Vince at slip to fall for 21. Yorkshire 168-9, leading by 186 with the best part of 66 overs remaining.

Patterson in to join Revis. Interesting to see what approach we see now from Revis, who has 23. Will he stick or twist?

1.16pm At Loughborough, the Diamonds are 169-8 in the 44th over. Lauren Winfield-Hill has top-scored so far with 73.

1.14pm Yorkshire and Northamptonshire have just announced that David Willey will be returning to Wantage Road on a four-year contract come the end of the season.

Lunch Report Yorkshire have advanced their second-innings lead to 186 with two wickets remaining during the fourth morning against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.

All results are realistic during the final two sessions of this seventh round LV= Insurance County Championship fixture.

Yorkshire have reached lunch at 168-8 from 74 overs in their second innings, with a minimum of 66 remaining.

The visitors lost three quick ones at the start of a day which saw them resume on 101-5, slipping to 124-8 as Harry Duke played on to Kyle Abbott, who also trapped Dom Bess lbw.

The Bess dismissal was the first of two wickets in three balls as Brad Wheal also had Jordan Thompson caught at a wide second slip, leaving Yorkshire eight down and with a lead of only 142.

Thankfully, ninth-wicket pair Matthew Revis (23 not out) and Dominic Drakes (21 not out) have shared an unbroken 44.

Having played out four maidens, Revis took back-to-back boundaries off Scotland seamer Wheal, who was then pulled for six by left-handed Bajan Drakes.

Yorkshire started the day targeting a lead of around 200, which they felt would be a tricky chase. They are nearly there.

1.03pm – Lunch Yorkshire have moved to 168-8 from 74 overs, a lead of 186 with a minimum of 66 overs remaining. Revis 23, Drakes 21. They have shared an unbroken 44. Excellent stuff from these two.

12.55pm Revis and Drakes are still going. They have put on 39, taking Yorkshire to 163-8 with a lead of 181. Revis 19 and Drakes 20. We’re in the 73rd over, with best part of 68 remaining.

12.25pm Still plenty of work to do yet, but Revis and Drakes are steadying the ship somewhat. They have taken the score to 147-8, a lead of 165. Drakes has just pulled a six off Wheal over backward square and has 14. Revis 9. Their stand is 23.

12.12pm Four maidens on the trot for Hampshire before the shackles are broken with two boundaries for Revis off Wheal, taking the score to 139-8 after 61 overs, a lead of 157. He has nine and Drakes six.

11.40am WICKET Thompson caught by Vince at a wide second slip off Wheal’s first ball of the morning for 10. It’s 124-8 and a lead of 142. Need a stand between Revis and Drakes.

11.35am WICKET Bess lbw Abbott, 15. Yorkshire 124-7 in the 52nd over, leading by 142. Revis in to join Thompson, who has 10.

11.28am Yorkshire have moved to 122-6, a lead of 140. Bess has 14 and Thompson 9. A busy partnership of 19 so far. Plenty of positive intent.

11.08am WICKET Ah, clearly not the start Yorkshire were after to day four. Duke bowled by South African seamer Abbott’s second ball of the day for 17. Played on to one which nipped back, and it’s 103-6 and a lead of 121.

Thompson in to join Bess.

10.58am We are just about to get going here at the Ageas Bowl. Bess to face Barker to get us going, with Yorkshire 101-5, leading by 119.

The Northern Diamonds are also in 50-over friendly action against Lightning today in Loughborough as they warm up for the start of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy on July 3.

They are 30-2 in the eighth over. Lauren Winfield-Hill has recovered from her quad injury and is playing. She is 23 not out.

9.45am Away from the Ageas Bowl, Joe Root has been elevated to the top of the ICC Test batting rankings.

9.08am Before we get going here today, you can recap yesterday’s action via our Match Report and Reaction piece with assistant coach Ali Maiden.

Match Report.

Ali Maiden.

Good morning from the Ageas Bowl, where the sun is shining once more.

It is a glorious start to the day on the South Coast, where we are set for a fascinating conclusion to this LV= Insurance County Championship fixture against Hampshire.

Yorkshire – 101-5 in the second innings – lead by 119 with five wickets in hand, and Hampshire will be the happier of the two sides at present. Though the visiting dressing room believe a target of 200 could be a tricky one.

Dom Bess and Harry Duke will begin the day at the crease with Jordan Thompson, Matthew Revis, Dominic Drakes and Steve Patterson all to come.

The pitch still looks largely good for batting on, though it has shown signs of extra bounce throughout the game, including last night. Will Fraine was undone by that as he gloved Kyle Abbott behind.

There will be a live stream available once more, shortly before we get underway at 11am. Enjoy the day.
