6.04pm – WICKET! Lyth trapped lbw by Harris in the day’s penultimate over for a fine 55 – 115-1 in the 26th. The lead is 237. Fisher in as night-watchman. Nine balls remain this evening.

5.55pm – Bean reaches his fifty off 73 balls with 6x4s and Lyth follows him immediately, off 68 balls with 8x4s and 1x6s. We’re ending the day strongly at 108-0, a lead of 230.

5.04pm – Lyth 24 and Bean 29 have reached 56-0 in the 11th over, the lead up to 178 with a little more than 16 overs remaining in the day.

4.55pm – We’ve moved to 37-0 in the early stages of our second innings, a lead of 159. Lyth 16, Bean 18.

4.25pm – We’ve had an all-run four in the early stages of our second innings, which has moved to 8-0 in the second over. Bean cut Harris out to backward point and scampered back.

4.11pm – WICKET! Morris bowled by Coad, 0, and Glamorgan are all out for 239. Yorkshire lead by 122 with 27 overs remaining in the day. Coad and Fisher claim four wickets apiece.

4.09pm – Dom Bess removes Colin Ingram earlier today. Picture by John Heald.

Dom Bess

4.08pm – WICKET! Coad traps Harris lbw for 40. Glamorgan 239-9 in the 69th over as they reply to 361. Coad has a third wicket.

4.04pm – We’re up and running after tea. Coad has just bowled the opening over of the evening. Now Bess. Glamorgan 236-8 after 67 overs replying to 361. Harris 39, Gorvin 21.

3.52pm – Middlesex have achieved that extra batting point for reaching 351-9 after 105 overs in reply to Derbyshire’s 173 all out at Derby.

3.38pm – Tea. Glamorgan holding Yorkshire up. They’ve moved to 231-8 from 66 overs in their first-innings reply to 361. Harris 34 and Gorvin 21 have added 59. Wickets for Bess and Thompson this afternoon.

3.32pm – We have two overs to bowl before tea, and Glamorgan are 227-8, trailing by 134. Harris 33, Gorvin 19. They have added 55 unbroken for the ninth wicket.

3.16pm – Glamorgan have now avoided the follow-0n. They’re 213-8.

3.11pm – Middlesex are 323-8 in the 101st over against Derbyshire at Derby, replying to 173. They’re very much in charge of the game, but their pursuit of a third batting point is an interest aside. Every point is vital at this stage of the season.

Here, Glamorgan are 211-8, needing one more run to avoid the follow-on.

3.03pm – Moriarty into the attack as Glamorgan move to 198-8 after 55 overs, needing 14 more to avoid the follow-on. Harris 15, Gorvin 9.

2.57pm – Glamorgan 195-8 in the 54th over, needing 17 to avoid the follow-on. Gorvin 9, Harris 11.

2.23pm – WICKET! Ingram bowled by Bess trying to cut a ball too close to him, 82. Bess strikes with his fifth ball. It’s 172-8 in the 45th.

2.19pm – Bess into the attack as Glamorgan move to 172-7 after 44 overs in reply to our 361. They need to reach 212 to avoid the follow-on. Ingram 82, Harris 1.

2.11pm – Glamorgan are 170-7, with Ingram 80 not out. In the last five minutes, he has become the leading run-scorer across both divisions of the Championship on 1,244.

2.04pm – WICKET! Thompson gets Crane caught behind by Bairstow following a short ball. Fabulous catch above his head from Bairstow. Crane goes for 29. It’s 161-7 after 41 overs. Ingram still there on 74.

1.39pm – Glamorgan have moved to 137-6 from 35 overs in their reply to 361. Ingram 62 and Crane 18. Fisher and Thompson the bowlers at present. Glamorgan need to reach 212 to avoid the follow-on. But there’s a real split of opinion in the media centre as to what Yorkshire should do if the follow-on option is available to them.

Do they enforce and take the aggressive option, or do they make absolutely sure of a draw first knowing that the advantage in the race for second place would be with them and not Middlesex going into next week?

For example, Middlesex are 234-6 in reply to Derbyshire’s 173 at Derby and look well placed to win. Should Yorkshire enforce the follow-on and Glamorgan go and get 450 and bowl the visitors out cheaply chasing a target, Middlesex would regain pole position. If Middlesex win at Derby and Yorkshire don’t manage to win here but draw, then Jonny Tatts and co would still be in second ahead of next week.

1.22pm – Ingram reaches his fifty off 72 balls with 9x4s. Glamorgan, replying to 361 all out, are 117-6 in the 32nd over.

1.11pm – We’re up and running after lunch. Glamorgan 98-6 in the 29th over, Coad in operation.

12.40pm – Elsewhere, Middlesex are 207-5 at Derby in reply to Derbyshire’s first-innings 173. Sussex are 259-6 in reply to Gloucestershire’s 109 at Bristol.

12.30pm – WICKET! Fisher traps van der Gugten gone lbw, 9, to leave Glamorgan at 98-6 in the 28th over. Fisher has four-for. What a fabulous session that is for Yorkshire.

12.14pm – Yorkshire’s new ball duo are back in tandem now, Fisher and Coad. Glamorgan are  91-5 in the 25th over, with Ingram 39 and van der Gugten 4.

12.09pm – WICKET! Cooke caught behind off the returning Fisher, 20, and Glamorgan are 86-5. Fisher has three-for.

11.49am – Glamorgan 68-4 after 19 overs. Ingram 29, Cooke 15. They’re replying to our first-innings 361.

11.27am – And now Hill in place of Coad, who has returned 2-34 from seven so far. Glamorgan 48-4 after 14.

11.24am – Thompson into the attack in place of Fisher (6-4-8-2). Glamorgan are 44-4 in the 14th over, with Ingram 14 and Cooke 6.

11.11am – WICKET! Kellaway caught behind off Coad, 4. Glamorgan are 37-4 after 11 overs. What a start to day two this has been. The hosts are replying to 361 all out.

10.55am – WICKET! Fisher has two in two – Carlson caught first slip by Hill for a golden duck. Glamorgan are 28-3 in the eighth over.

10.52am – WICKET! Tribe caught at second slip by Lyth off Fisher, 4. Glamorgan are 28-2 in the eighth over. Great start to the day. Tribe falls after driving at a wide ball he didn’t need to play at.

Adam Lyth

10.39am – WICKET! Northeast trapped lbw by Coad, 16. Glamorgan 16-1 in the fifth over.

10.34am – Fisher sharing the early morning bowling duties. Glamorgan are 16-0 after three overs. Tribe on strike for the hosts.

10.31am We’re up and running. Coad is bowling to Northeast, with Glamorgan 12-0 in the third over in reply to our 361.

10.23am – It remains overcast as we approach the start of play – no bad thing for Yorkshire’s bowlers.

8.50am – Good morning from Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, where it’s an overcast start to day two. But there’s no rain around, that’s the main thing.

Glamorgan will begin the day on 12-0 in reply to Yorkshire’s 361 all out in the first innings.

That was an encouraging effort from Yorkshire having been inserted, with George Hill’s 90 supported by further half-centuries from James Wharton and Dom Bess.

Wharton said at close last night that the pitch was offering something all day for the bowlers, so fingers crossed that continues throughout the next couple of days.

It’s looking like second-placed Yorkshire will have to win this game to maintain a significant gap to third-placed Middlesex heading into the final week of the season. Middlesex are very well placed in their game against Derbyshire at Derby, 125-1 in reply to 173 all out.

There are all manner of fascinating fixtures in play this week, with an impact on the Division One title, relegation and the Division Two promotion picture.

Look at that game between relegation-threatened Lancashire and title-chasing Somerset at Emirates Old Trafford! Lancashire were bowled out for 140 yesterday, Somerset for 146 and the Red Rose county closed on 16-1 in their second innings.

Anyway, back to Cardiff. If you want to recap yesterday’s action, you can do via our match report and reaction piece with Wharton. They’re linked below.
