Lauren Winfield-Hill has spoken of the injury which forced her into an overnight hospital stay in Southampton last weekend, admitting the experienced was “a bit weird”.
Yorkshire captain Winfield-Hill was struck in the throat stood up to the stumps against the leg-spin of Holly Garton in the county’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup defeat against Hampshire.
She had to be stretchered off and taken to hospital, where she was x-rayed for a possible fractured larynx, with concern in the camp significant.
In the end, she was given the all clear, was picked up by the team bus from hospital on Monday morning and played against Essex at Chelmsford on Wednesday. On Sunday evening, coach Rich Pyrah had ruled her out of that game!
“The pain of actually getting hit in the throat wasn’t that bad, although it was pretty hard to swallow,” said Winfield-Hill.
“But it was a bit weird because I felt instantly so tired. My body went so floppy and sleepy.
“I was conscious and saying to the physio, ‘I can hear you, but I can’t do anything’.
“As I say, the pain was never the issue, it was just tiredness for around two hours afterwards. It was almost like you were going under for anaesthetic.
“Thankfully I recovered pretty quickly and was able to get back out there at Essex (on Wednesday).
“I was pretty determined to do that.”
