Report

On a cool and overcast morning Durham won the toss and elected to bat first.

Ben Coad and Tim Bresnan opened the bowling and the first 14 overs saw Durham reach 15-0. A double change brought Josh Shaw and Matthew Fisher in to the attack and after 24 overs the score had advanced to 24-0.

A further double change saw Matthew Waite and Jordan Thompson with the ball and it was the former who struck twice having Steel caught behind for 18 from 90 balls and Graham Clark bowled for nought.

At lunch Durham were 61-2 from 211 balls including 185 dot balls.

Post lunch the score had progressed to 108 when Ross Greenwell was trapped lbw by Josh Poysden for 52 – made from 130 balls with eight fours – after he and Ned Eckersley had added 52 in 110 balls.

Will Smith joined Eckersley and they added 75 before prior to tea Smith was caught at mid off by Jack Leaning from the bowling of Jack Shutt. At tea Durham 192-4. Eckersley had completed his half century from 113 balls with seven fours.

Ryan Pringle was stumped by Ben Birkhead from Shutts bowling for 12 and skipper Stuart Poynter joined Eckersley. The latter had progressed to 91 when Poynter was caught at 2nd slip by Jack Leaning off Coad – he was soon followed by James Weighell caught at fourth slip, again off Coad, by Will Fraine.

Eckersley completed his century from 166 balls with 12 fours and a six and when bad light brought an early close to proceedings. He remained unbeaten on 109 with Paul Coughlin also unbeaten on 32 from 48 balls – the pair had added 52 in 82 balls.
