Scorecard

Day Three of Yorkshire’s Vitality County Championship clash with Leicestershire at Headingley was abandoned without a ball bowled today.

Overnight rain was followed by some more during the early morning before early afternoon sunshine and high winds.

A trio of starts were planned – one at 3.40pm, another at 4.30pm and again at 4.45pm – but more rain put paid to those, and the latter burst forced umpires Mark Newell and Jack Shantry to call a halt to the day just before 4.45pm.

Yorkshire would have resumed on 72-2 in reply to Leicestershire’s first-innings 354 all out, with opener Adam Lyth unbeaten on 43 and George Hill 13.

Lyth yesterday went beyond 12,000 runs in the County Championship.

He said: “I didn’t realise I was that close to getting 12,000 Championship runs for the club. It’s a proud moment, and hopefully there’s many more to tick off.

“If we get out tomorrow, I’ll look to build on my 40-odd.

“I played lovely last night, and hopefully I can maybe go on and get three figures.”
