Yorkshire’s men and the Northern Diamonds women will return to pre-season training next week. The squads were back in at Headingley yesterday for a day of fitness testing. They will then begin to ramp up preparations on a more regular basis from next week.

Matthew Fisher believes himself and his England Lions team-mates preparing to train in the United Arab Emirates later this month must have one eye on winning selection for the senior Test tour to India at the start of next year.

Coach Tom Smith has hailed the continued development of Yorkshire’s up and coming stars, saying there has been “some real signs of progression from the lads” as he sat down to reflect on the summer at second-team level.

There’s a good number of the Yorkshire lads, and Northern Diamonds girls, heading to Australia this winter to play grade cricket, and they will have an amazing experience.

Five Yorkshire stars, including four D40 national champions, have been selected across two England Disability squads for respective pre-Christmas assignments.
