Ottis Gibson is hoping Yorkshire can mix progression with performance in the forthcoming Metro Bank One-Day Cup, which starts this week.

Harry Duke hit a blistering century late in Yorkshire’s imposing 382-5 as they beat Shropshire by 247 runs in today’s National Counties friendly at Wellington CC in Telford.

“These sorts of games go back a long way,” said former Yorkshire and Shropshire batter Kevin Sharp when asked to reminisce ahead of tomorrow’s National Counties Showcase fixture between the two counties in Telford (11am).

Yorkshire missed out on quarter-final qualification in the Vitality Blast as they were beaten at home by Nottinghamshire Outlaws, winners by 28 runs. 

Yorkshire have to win against Nottinghamshire Outlaws at Headingley tonight (7pm) and hope for favours from elsewhere in order to secure a place in the Vitality Blast quarter-finals.

Inspirational young people from across Yorkshire’s Performance Pathway were celebrated during a special night at Headingley Cricket Ground.

Yorkshire claimed a stunning Blast win to boost their quarter-final hopes, chasing down 206 to win by six wickets with three balls to spare at New Road. Dawid Malan was the star of the show with an unbeaten 93 off 50 balls with seven fours and five sixes, but Jordan Thompson smashed 40 not out off 14 to seal the victory.

The majority of the focus following Thursday’s convincing Vitality Blast win over Durham at Headingley was on five-wicket leg-spinner Jafer Chohan. But for coach Ottis Gibson, there was another encouraging and important contribution from a youngster which very much flew under the radar.

Ottis Gibson admitted his “sheer disappointment” after tonight’s Roses Vitality Blast match at Emirates Old Trafford was abandoned without a ball bowled.
