Harry Brook and Jack Leaning hit crucial half-centuries as Yorkshire confidently batted out the final day of their floodlit pink ball clash with Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl to secure their second draw of the season.
Yorkshire started the day at 91-2 in their second innings, trailing by two, and slipped to 112-4 early on as they lost Gary Ballance and Che Pujara.
At that stage, the lead was only 19, but Brook and Leaning united to share 108 either side of lunch to ensure a 10-point haul from a fixture played out on a turgid pitch.
Yorkshire declared their second innings at 7.50pm on 263-6, a lead of 170.
Brook made 68 off 101 balls and Leaning 54 not out off 191.
It means Yorkshire have now won two, lost two and drawn two (the other draw being the early season Essex washout) in the Specsavers County Championship
On Monday, they make a return to action with the red ball against Division One leaders Surrey at Scarborough, starting at 11am.
Make no mistake, Yorkshire were given a scare inside the first hour of day four when Ballance was caught behind for 21 playing forwards to the off-spin of Ollie Rayner before, six balls later, Pujara was bowled by medium pacer Ian Holland for 32.
That left the score at 112-4 in the 51st over.
Brook and Leaning then repelled pace trio Dale Steyn, Fidel Edwards and Kyle Abbott, with the former duo bowling with the new ball during the afternoon.
Brook played the lead role in the partnership and reached 50 off 68 balls with 10 fours. Four of them came in one over from Holland as Yorkshire moved to 186-4, leading by 93.
Unfortunately, he fell when Leaning straight drove a ball from Gareth Berg back down the pitch, with the bowler deflecting it onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end to run him out – 220-5 in the 89th, a lead of 127 with 43.3 overs remaining.
Yorkshire reached tea at 237-5, leading by 144, with 33 overs remaining.
Leaning reached his fifty off 174 balls half an hour after tea, including three boundaries, as he and Jonny Tattersall advanced the score by 36 runs before the latter was bowled by Rayner, leaving the score at 256-6.
The White Rose are now fifth in Division One on 62 points, level with Hampshire in sixth.
Looking up the table, they are 46 points behind Surrey, who have also played six. Looking down, they are two clear of second-bottom Lancashire with a game in hand on them.
