Yorkshire’s Members’ Committee have been working hard throughout the year to engage with the Club to discuss any concerns from its Members. Richard Levin, Board Nominated Member has given an overview of how the committee have continued to challenge the Club throughout this unprecedented year…

Perhaps ironically – with no cricket played – the Members’ Committee’s involvement in the decision making of the club has been more significant in 2020 than perhaps any other time in its history.

A monthly meeting between the committee and the club’s executive – meant that Members’ views were constantly at the forefront of the club’s thinking.

The Members’ Committee themselves also reached out to as many Members as possible.

The biggest issue we were collectively faced with was the dilemma faced concerning 2020 membership subscriptions.

A delicate balance needed to be struck between the club’s acute financial need to keep hold of the incredibly important income that the Members provide and the needs of individual Members – many who faced financial struggles in an unprecedented situation.

All parties are proud that Members who needed to were able to receive a full refund on their 2020 subscriptions. This was in contrast to many other county clubs – who offered either no refund at all or a partial refund.

The fact that 85% of qualified Members ultimately donated their subscriptions is a fantastic testament to their loyalty.

The committee are also working closely with the club to ensure the 2021 subscription process runs smoothly and is seen as fair – the extension of the ‘Early Bird Window’ is just one example.

Another joint initiative within the year was the contacting of some of more isolated Members by Martyn Moxon and Mark Arthur.

Having consulted with the Members – the club pushed hard for 2020 to contain a significant proportion of First Class cricket.

The provision of streamed coverage meant that many of our darkest days were filled with the sound of bat on ball.

The Committee provided the Club with almost constant feedback about the coverage. It got better and better as the season went on – and will be better still in 2021. Although a costly exercise – the Club felt its provision was crucial to the Membership.

Whilst the stance taken in 2020 allowed members to be heard – all parties are looking at better methods of two way communication going forwards.

All parties are keenly aware that YCCC remains a Members’ club and if circumstances prevent face-to-face contact – suitable alternative channels must be found.
