Jordan Thompson is joining Yorkshire’s growing band of internationals this weekend as he represents England at the Hong Kong Sixes event, starting tomorrow.
Just a few hours after Adil Rashid and Jafer Chohan begin their ODI series with England’s senior squad in the Caribbean this evening, the county’s dynamic all-rounder has been selected in a seven-man squad for the fast-paced invitational event at Hong Kong’s Tin Kwong Road cricket ground.
England are one of 12 nations competing in the three-day, six-a-side, six-overs per side competition which has not been played for the last seven years.
Thompson is part of a squad including captain Ravi Bopara, Ed Barnard, Ethan Brookes, James Coles, Alex Davies and Samit Patel.
The likes of seasoned internationals Dan Christian, Robin Uthappa and former Yorkshire T20 overseas all-rounder Shadab Khan are also involved for Australia, India and Pakistan respectively through to Sunday.
It’s yet unclear as to whether the competition will be televised or streamed in the UK.

Lauren Winfield-Hill’s Brisbane Heat are making the early running in women’s Big Bash League in Australia, which started last weekend.
The Yorkshire star is playing with the Heat as one of their overseas players, and they have won two from two so far.
Winfield-Hill has posted scores of 24 and 10, in wins against champions Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades.
Their campaign continues in the early hours of Saturday morning (12.30am UK) when they face fellow pacesetters Hobart Hurricanes in Melbourne.
Winfield-Hill, married to Queenslander Courtney, is spending her winter Down Under.
She is also playing state cricket for Queensland Fire. Before the start of the WBBL, she posted scores of 65, 28 and 32 not out in four 50-over matches.
Fire have won two, lost two in the early stages of the Women’s National Cricket League competition.
The WBBL is being televised by Sky Sports.

Anthony McGrath begins work as Yorkshire’s new men’s head coach tomorrow having returned home to the county from Essex, as does the county’s new general manager of cricket Gavin Hamilton.
Former all-rounder McGrath, who has replaced Ottis Gibson, starts work a week before his senior squad have their fitness testing day at Headingley next Friday.
The players then return to pre-season training on November 12 as they ramp up preparations for a return to Division One of the Vitality County Championship and a challenge for white ball silverware.
It is on that date that McGrath will be in full-time at Headingley.
Emerging batter Noah Kelly is currently in Australia playing club cricket, so he will have to wait to work closely with McGrath. But he is excited by what the title-winning coach can offer Yorkshire’s players.
Kelly said: “He will add so much value to what is an exciting group of players that we have. He’s got so much experience, he’s done a great job with Essex, and he has the Yorkshire blood. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”

Noah Kelly is blogging for Yorkshire’s website during his stay in Melbourne, and you can read his latest offering tomorrow morning.
The left-hander, 19, has a top score of 69 in two innings so far for Beaumaris CC in the Southern Bayside competition.
He is one of a number of Yorkshire men’s and women’s stars playing winter cricket in Australia, including the aforementioned Lauren Winfield-Hill.
Ben Cliff, Harry Duke and Will Luxton are all playing first grade cricket in Melbourne; Cliff and Luxton with Greenvale and Duke with Essendon.
Duke has posted scores of 2 and 30 so far, while Luxton is yet to bat and Cliff has taken two wickets in two-day cricket.
Dom Bess is on his way to Sydney to play for Mosman CC, while Sterre Kalis is in the Harbour City playing for Gordon CC. In their women’s first grade competition, Yorkshire’s Dutch international batter has posted 21 and 6 opening the batting in a pair of T20 appearances.

A new book on the life of Brian Close will be launched in Headingley on Sunday, at a Yorkshire Supporters Association event.
One Hell of a Life has been written by Stephen Chalke, of Fairfield Books, and is available at £20 via www.thenightwatchman.net/buy.
If you want to get one in person, you can do at the Parish Hall of St Michael’s Church in St Michael’s Lane, Headingley, from 2.30pm on Sunday (November 3). The YSA meeting is an open one and will be attended by some former players and Close’s family members.
Publishers Fairfield say: “Chalke draws on conversations he has had over the past 25 years, both with Brian Close himself and with team-mates, family and opponents, many of them like Close no longer living.
“The result is a fascinating portrait of an unusual man, one who might have reached greater heights if he had adopted more of a safety-first approach to life – but then he would not have been Brian Close: daring, defiant and at times plain daft.”
Jonny Tattersall has described Jafer Chohan as “one of the best spinners in the country” as the Yorkshire leg-spinner aims for an England senior debut.
That could come as early as this evening in Antigua, when England play their first of three ODIs against the West Indies (6pm).
Chohan, 22-years-old, is on his first international tour, where England will play three 50-over matches and then five T20Is through November. Fellow Yorkshire leggie Adil Rashid is on the same tour.
Chohan claimed 17 wickets in 10 Vitality Blast matches for Yorkshire this summer just gone, including a best of 5-14 in a home win over Durham at Headingley.
Tattersall said: “Jafer is obviously going in the right direction as well. He had another good season in the Blast, and he’s fully deserved his call-up to international cricket.
“He’s up there as one of the best spinners in the country, and it will be fascinating to see how he gets on over the next few weeks in the West Indies.”
