Report

Due to light rain the start was delayed until noon and further rain interruptions restricted play to 67 overs on day one – Yorkshire closing on 162-5. A quick look at the stats tells a story of how difficult it was. With three no balls, 405 deliveries were bowled of which 348 were “dot balls”; 23 were boundary fours and there was 1 six.

Having the lost the toss we were asked to bat first.

James Wharton was caught behind for eight with the score 14 and Matthew Revis joined Will Fraine – they added 36 before Fraine was caught at second slip for 34 from 43 deliveries with 4 fours and a six. Lunch 52-2.

Revis was out lbw for 20 from 93 balls with the score at 86. George Hill was 37 not out and Tom Loten 11 not out when at 3.35pm rain interrupted play and tea was taken. Play resumed at 5pm with 28 overs remaining.

George Hill progressed to 47 from 114 balls before being caught at the wicket and Matthew Waite was taken at second slip without scoring to leave us 146-5. Ben Birkhead and Tom Loten guided us to an early close.

The forecast for day two would suggest further stoppages!
