Yorkshire women beat a Cricket Scotland XI in their County Championship 50-over clash at Marske yesterday, by 147 runs on the back of a trio of notable contributions.
Northern Diamonds senior seamer Jess Woolston claimed a new ball 4-23 from five overs to bowl Scotland out for 108 as they chased 256, sealing a first win in two matches in Group One of the Championship.
Earlier, opener Frances Lonsdale set the tone with an excellent, measured 81 off 110 balls after Yorkshire had elected to bat.
Batting at seven Elicia Pollard then boosted their total to 255-9 with a much more aggressive 71 off 57.
Lonsdale and Pollard shared 81 for the sixth wicket to fashion a superb recovery from 94-5. That was rubber-stamped when last pair Robyn Dennington and Alice Acklam added 48 unbroken to advance from 207-9.
Dennington made 25 not out and Acklam added 21.
Dennington capped a memorable day with 3-26 from six overs, sharing the new ball with Woolston as Scotland were bowled out inside 22 overs.
Yorkshire have now won one, lost one in their 50-over campaign, which is a group only affair and sees them play one more fixture at Derbyshire a week on Sunday.
They are also involved in the Championship’s T20 competition, which has started with two defeats and two games rained off.
Meanwhile, Yorkshire’s D40 Pursuit team – the county’s disability second-team, won a 40-over clash at Higham yesterday against Shropshire, chasing 196 to win by four wickets.
William Baxter took the new ball and returned 2-27 from eight overs in Shropshire’s 195-5. In reply, Graham Whitfield top-scored with 66 as victory for the Tykes was sealed inside 32 overs. He led a recovery from 54-4. He shared 95 for the fifth wicket with Dairen Hirst-Spalding (18).
Curtis Sugden made 25 at the top of the order, while Jasper Spooner finished 22 not out.
Yorkshire are now second with three wins from five games, sat 19 points behind leaders Cheshire, who have won four from four.
Yorkshire face Cheshire in their final match at Warmsworth on July 28. There are 30 points available for a win, though Cheshire do have two to play.
