Yorkshire were beaten in today’s Under 18s County Women’s Cup final by Surrey at Kibworth Cricket Club in Leicestershire.
Surrey claimed the 50-over national title courtesy of a 105-run success on the back of their commanding 317-7 total having been inserted.
In reply, Yorkshire were bowled out for 212 in 42 overs, despite captain Amelia Oliver’s impressive opening 84 off 110 balls with 11 boundaries. Wicketkeeper-batter Olivia Breese also contributed a middle-order 36.
Opener Jemima Bowman was Surrey’s star with a superb 142 off 128 balls, including 22 fours. She batted through until the 39th over of an innings which saw Amelia Love and Jeanie Lee strike twice apiece with the ball.
Seamer Love, spinner Lee and opening batter Oliver have all played first-team cricket for the White Rose this season.
Oliver opened for the county as recently as Saturday’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup win over Gloucestershire at Bristol, contributing her maiden senior half-century.
Love took the new ball and was Yorkshire’s standout bowler with 2-38 from eight overs. With the ball for Surrey, Flora Rogers also opened the bowling and returned 4-42 from her 10 overs.
