Spin duo Dom Bess and Jafer Chohan claimed three wickets apiece as Somerset made 338 for the loss of 10 wickets on day two of their red-ball friendly in Abu Dhabi.

Yorkshire’s final day of action on tour saw the Taunton side respond to 311-9 yesterday, including 61 for Harry Duke and George Hill’s 51.

Yorkshire’s eight-man attack sent down 88 overs, with seamer Ben Cliff also striking twice added to one wicket apiece for new ball duo Ben Coad and Jack White.

Craig Overton led the way for Somerset with an aggressive 66 down the order, while Lewis Goldsworthy made 36 and openers Andy Umeed and Sean Dickson 35 and 32 respectively.

Coad and White were both miserly, returning 1-24 and 1-21 from 12 overs each and Cliff recorded figures of 2-53 from 12 overs.

Off-spinner Bess impressed with 3-44 from 13 overs against his home county, twice removing Tom Lammonby and Fin Hill.

Chohan’s leg-spin accounted for 3-92 from 17 overs – the most overs bowled by a White Rose player – and removed Josh Thomas, Tom Abell and Kasey Aldridge.

Added to a caught and bowled, Bess added another catch.

ANTHONY McGRATH SAID

“The two weeks here have been invaluable, and this was a great way to finish the tour.

“It’s been great – as I said right at the start of the tour – for learning about players and the skill levels.

“It’s been very warm, and we’re not really going to get those conditions in England. But it’s been fantastic to get some time on feet.

“Ninety overs batting and then bowling against a very good team in Somerset, most of the players have got through some stuff.”
